*Update* for anyone who sees something similar on their birds. This was definitely early stages of fowl pox. The pox are now dried over with the classic black scab, and some birds have the black scabs on their combs now. Looks like everyone only has the dry form, so I'm hoping they will shake it...
Right after I posted yesterday, I got my first pip, but on the wrong end of the egg, no where near the air cell. I opened the membrane enough to make sure she was getting air, and waited a patient 21 hrs before assisting her the rest of the way out. When I got home from work today she had...
I had a coyote grab a hen the other day, broad daylight, and there would have been only feathers left if I hadn't heard her scream and chased him off. I lost a different one with only a pile of feathers behind... guessing coyote as well, but can't ever know for sure. Sorry for the loss :(
Well, I knew I was pushing my luck with fertility when these hens had been away from the roo for 3 weeks before I decided to set eggs. Ended up with only 2 at lockdown. It's day 20 now and those two eggs are wiggling around, but still no pips. What's that old saying about a watched egg...?
@Mackenzie450 Wow! That is so lucky! I'm so glad she's home. We have had two disappear like that, neither of them found unfortunately :( I'm still waiting for my eggs. They will be 24 wks on Thursday, but it's so hot here I'm thinking it may be affecting their laying... Or I'm just impatient, haha.
Thanks for the reply! I will try the permethrin. I thought of pox as well, but I have been keeping a close eye on everyone's face and comb, and haven't seen anything.
My 23 wk old Buff Orpington has these pimple-like bumps on her legs. I noticed them a few days ago, and decided to watch them, but they've gotten worse. If I apply light pressure they crack at the scale boundaries and are filled with blood and pus. The yellow inside seems to be a kind of waxy...
Thank you! Well the Barred Rocks are more red with bigger combs and wattles. The Buffs are pretty red, but definitely not as big of combs as I've seen in adult pictures. No squatting yet, I think... Maybe from my Ameraucana, but could be just because she is the tamest she holds still for pets :)...
Okay, I'm replying to this thread because it seems like good luck! I've got 2 Barred Rocks and 2 Buff Orps that are 23 weeks and an Ameraucana that is 21 weeks and no eggs yet! They free range some days, but stay in other days so I can't imagine it's just a coincidence that they ALL only lay on...
I have been wondering about this. I have a 3 month old blue Ameraucana roo who hasn't crowed yet. I have seen him do the silent crow a few times... does that mean the real thing is coming soon? The breeder I got him from had plenty of roos around, and I bet he can hear the neighbor's one too.

It's so tempting! I've got 5 Rhode Island Red eggs in there and it looks like only 2 are progressing on schedule at Day 8. I can't see anything through the 7 blue Easter Egger eggs, so they will be a mystery
YAY! Congrats! I have two 22 week old Buffs that haven't laid yet, though neither of mine have the wattles that yours does... A few more weeks I guess :fl
