Thanks to each of you for the sympathy. Knew I could count on people here to understand. I think living in a suburban neighborhood gave me false confidence which is ridiculous because I've chased foxes away from the big girl run. Anyway, I suspect I will hatch again perhaps in Spring but...
So sorry but need to vent. Six 1.5 month old BCM chicks dead, probably last night. Incubator hatched Sept 19th. They were just going to be moved to the big girl coop. 2 Roos and 4 hens. Was so looking forward to those chocolate eggs in spring. But I can only blame myself, poor wee things...
Sorry in advance but I just went out to give my six 1.5 month old black copper Marans chicks some feed and they were all dead, something got them most likely last night. 4 bodies left, 2 taken. Can only blame myself as their brooder was in a 10 x 10 greenhouse tent and I wasn't forcing them...
Well, came home from work and my broody was out and about for a good long while. Think she's finally finishing her broody spell. May try her next year. As for the eggs in the incubator I put them on lockdown. Heard loud peeping so they are getting close. Incubator hatch it is.
Advice needed. 12 eggs in the incubator, day 17. A VERY determined broody in the coop on a nest box. She has been sitting for weeks. Should I give her the eggs to hatch (due Friday)? If so should I try moving her tonight with fake eggs to an enclosed spot, give her the eggs to hatch in the...
I have the mini advance too and recommend just following the manual's instructions! Truly a hands free incubator. Just watch the water chamber, add water as necessary. What are you planning on hatching?
Hi guys. I live in SE CT too and buy Green Mountain organic feed at the Westerly RI Agway. They typically stock it but if you are planning to make the trip you might want to call ahead to be sure they have it. Also, Salem Feed and Grain will get it for you but you must pay ahead. I think...
Yes, I just heard about the 6 rule. Where does that come from? Is it a TS thing or a CT thing? Person I was talking to said he thought it was some CT rule. I can't follow the logic behind it.
Oh I understand I can't compare a heritage bird to a Cornish cross. He just looked larger than he was. Very tasty of course. I'll continue to follow the thoughts and info here, thanks for sharing!
