I'm in Miller Place! I just got my first honey bees last week! I'm enchanted by them-it's a little weird. I go out and just watch them coming and going from the hive. My kids are considering an intervention!
My neighbors all have tons of flowers planted, so those will be blooming soon for...
Whew! I just spent a week or so, reading this whole thread. I loved it!
Hi, I'm Rosie! I am incubating 7 Toulouse eggs right now-3 production greys and 4 dewlap buffs. I've candled them (only around day 6) and I can already see some nice veining so I'm pretty excited. I am incubating 8 Indian...
That's great about trying quail again-I keep Cots, the Texas A&M white ones-they are FAR more tame and mellow than the Pharaohs. Only problem is that there's no difference between males and females, so you kind of have to wait to see who gets a bald spot on their head (those are the poor...
Wow. I feel bad for your hands. I also kinda feel bad for your poor boy who wants a wife. Is there any other way to get through mating season without having to keep him penned up to save your sanity? I have a young Drake, and I have to say-that sounds like a nightmare!
This is Hiawatha, my Penciled Indian Runner drake. He's a sweet boy that prefers to chase the cats around over sitting with mama. He's about 4 months old-hatched in my home.
WOW! I'm jealous of all the space you must have for all those crops! I can't wait to plant my little garden-I have more space this year since we got rid of the trampoline, and hopefully we can also get rid of the swing set that's taking up sunshine in my yard! My Bees are also coming in April...
Happy Weekend, everyone.
I wound up getting 4 little girls-Cochin/RIR mixes, they're really cute, and fairly friendly. 1 black, one red and blue, and 2 blue. They look like they'll have dad's (Cochin) looks and hopefully mom's egg laying superpowers (RIR) I also picked up a half grown white...
Hi everyone!
I hope you all have been weathering this frigid winter ok! I'm freezing, but I'm back to work, plus the fire department, so I've kept busy!
I have sadly lost 4 hens this winter to raccoons. I've been so upset about it-one got into the run, and I didn't know-the next morning...
I've got 'em! Two young adult Pekin girls! I'm up to 6 chickens , the two pekins and I have two little cayuga babies. I also have the coturnix quail. The Pekins give me two enormous eggs a day, and my youngest chicken girls just started laying, so we're back to eating LOTS of eggs!
How is...
I just brought home 2, 6 week old Cayugas, still fuzzy and precious. One is, no kidding-double the size of the other. I was told by the previous owner, that odds are, the bigger one is a drake. I've only adopted adult ducks, and I only have females, in the past, so this whole duckling thing is...
