Yesterday we noticed that our hen looked like she was egg bound. We caught her and saw the lump between her legs. It was not hard, so we feared that she might have broken it herself.
We have been giving her lots of calcium and baths. Also put some lubrication on and inside her vent.
But I have...
We kept our chicks in a box in the garage with a heat lamp. Gave them fresh water daily and fresh chick feed. After a few days we just took them outside, they ran around freely by the house and hid in between the bushes. We put the water and feed out there too and in the evening they would come...
My roosters name is Napoleon :) His first favorite chicken was Josephine, when she died we got Marie-Louise. For some reason he liked those two the most.
No, he isn't.
He was sitting on the egg though. Maybe they just cuddled up in the nesting box and an egg happened to be in there already. We do have other chickens. My husband will have to check when he goes out to the barn again.
My husband acquired a couple Svart Honas last year. Now it seems like the hen laid an egg, but it also seems like the rooster is up there with her. Do the Svart Hona roosters take turns sitting on the eggs?
Napoleon is still doing well, but I'm sure he feels lonely without her. We have other hens, he will probably pick a new favourite one soon.
I thought about the mistresses, but decided against Maria, because that's my mom's name bahaha
