Due to family problems I have to move into an apartment. It is heartbreaking for me to have to give up my sweet hens, but I want to find a home where they won't be culled. I do not want anything for them, just the assurance that they will be cared for. There are six of them, all between 3 & 4...
Well, Sonoran Silkie, you are right! This is what they are saying that the zoning code lists what is allowed and has a statement tyhat anything not specifically allowed is prohibited.
However, I find it odd that the Planning & Zoning Administrator did not know this three years ago.
I am still...
Thanks to all for your support.
Mac - Before I even got my hens I did check the ordinances and found that poultry running at large was not allowed, so I figured that it meant one could have poultry. Even so I checked with the Planning & Zoning Administrator and he said that nothing in the codes...
In reply, they City of Princeton ordinance only refers to having poultry roam the strret freely. My hens are confined to a large yard, with a privacy fence.
When we first checked the ordinances we also contacted the zoning administrator and was told there were no ordinances prohibiting the...
Hah, politics and laws!
Three years ago I checked our towns ordinances carefully, pigs, goats, horses, etc were prohibited, there were regulations on dogs & cats. The planning & zoning administrator said we could have the chickens as they were not prohibited. In order to not disturb the...
Three years ago I checked the ordinance for my town, Princeton IL, and NOTHING in the city codes prohibited having chickens in town. At the time the planning & zoning administrator said that since it wasn't expressly prohibited we could have are hens. Great, thought ok, and have had my hens...
Wow, thanks for all the input. I will have to bring her inside as there is no way to segregate her in the coop. I have noticed the other girls pushing her off her feed.

Hi all,
Maybe you folks can help. I have 10 hens, all are doing well but one of my leghorns is really not looking good. Started about a month ago, she went into a full molt. About that time her once thick, red comb started to slowly shrivel up, almost like she was dehydrated. It has been...
We live in a subdivision on a corner lot. SOme of my neighbors hate my hens because they think it lowers the value of the property. Hah, don't think so!
Quote:
Nononononononono...They'd claim the girls are spreading sickness and try to have them removed as a health hazard.
I've got to agree with you there. No way I want anyone to say my girls aren't healthy,

I hear you! Right after I gave my neighbor eggs, THEN the animal control came over! And yes, I'd call them two faced jerks, and thats just being nice! My daughter said to tell you this for those idiots, "Sweetie, if you're going to be two-faced, at least make one of them...
I live in a small sub division in Princeton, IL, population 5,000. Our ordinance regarding poultry is very clear. All poultry allowed, as long as they are confined to your own property. Our lot is about 1/4 acre, and we have 10 hens. Because I did not want a rooster disturbing anyone I choose...
Because of all the rain we got a late start in planting vegtables. But we finally got everything finished yesterday. Several kinds of tomatos, leaf letuce and peppers. Bush beans, carrots, beets, broccoli, califlower, cantalope, cucumber, and brussel sprouts.
We also planted grapes...
