I use the play box sand . Get it in 50lbs bag at Lowe's . It works fine. I wet it down sometimes in the summer and the chickens love it keeps them cool. I use it in the run and the coop.

Well I have had mine in the coop for about 2 months now. I clean almost daily, but I only have 4 chickens. I use a kittle litter scooper. I think you can replace it whenever you feel the need. I have a lot of property here so I just shovel it and throw in the back forty .
I just finished this coop . I have 4 chickens . I have Linoleum down on the floor then sand over that The sand is wonderful for cleaning. use a kitty scoop to pick up the poop, We have an auto door on the run that lets them out every day and closes up at night.
Thank you, I will take some tomorrow and post the new pics. It is real easy to clean out . The door opens on the side and I just pick up the poop with a cat scooper and put in a small bucket to save of the garden. We live in California so temps are not as cold .

I use the crumbles. My chickens like it best. My husband happend to get the pellets once by accident ,and my chicken would not eat them . To big. I think the pellets are hard for the chickens eat.
