I've read some threads on this and am looking for input from those who have built a foundation of sand. It seems there have been people who put gravel down as a first layer, but then regretted it as the chickens seemed to dig it up. But would that be because the sand layer wasn't deep enough...

You may be surprised when their final feather pattern is set. One of your trio has a nice solid red head and neck and overall the three of them are looking quite good. Time will tell!

syble, they're still too young to tell for certain. My guess would be all pullets, but really it's a guess at this age due to the multiple feather changes the Partridges go through. I've never noticed any behavioural differences between the sexes..at least until the first crow!
RhodeRunner, you have some nice looking pullets there. Evenly patterned with relative solid, dark heads. I can't see the detail of the pencilling but it also seems quite good!

Partridge Chants go through several feathering/colour changes and it will be several weeks before you can tell pullets from cockerels. Hope this helps.
