Chantecler Thread!

My 2 Partridge Chanteclers came from Ideal. For a while one had an up tail and the other sort of a "bob" with the tail feathers curving down over the rump. Then the other one's tail did the same thing. Definitely not the nice long, flat back through the tail look of the one's on John's page. Maybe it is just a "teen age" look? They are 15 weeks today.

Looks like it was an awkward "teen years" thing. Longer tail feathers growing back in at 21 1/2 weeks. Phew!

No roosters at our house. I would have to BUY eggs at the store! My daughter is what I call an emotional vegetarian. She won't eat an egg that MIGHT be fertilized. Lucky for me, Ideal was 100% on sexing my pullet order.

No black on the head or neck. Solid deep red is ideal.

The top two look a lot like one of my Easter Eggers. Here are my P.C.s when they were about 20 weeks. They are now both about the color of the top one. Originally one was a bit "rustier" and the partridge pattern on her back was messy whereas the pattern on the other was very linear. They are both smoothly patterned and harder to tell apart now. Still waiting for eggs from both of them. They are 24 weeks and aren't even showing red combs.

I haven't had great success with my Partridge project, but when this years pullets got their final feathering, this little beauty appeared. I was also able to finally get a decent rooster so maybe next year I can get a few chicks from this gal. In the background is a Penedesenca/Chantecler cross, and a bunch 'o White Chanteclers

Just took a few more photos of some of the girls, thought I would share. Very happy so far with what I kept, I am looking forward to next breeding season.

Anyone have a clue as to the general age of first lay for Partridge Chanteclers? At 24 weeks mine aren't even showing comb.

All my girls are the same age.The Anconas started laying 2 weeks ago, the Cubalayas, one EE and one Australorp in the past 5 days. Not sure about the Faverolles. I THINK the first 3 we got starting about 3 weeks ago were from them but I've seen nothing since.
