  • Good morning Bella! Good to hear your flocks combs are healing. Keep up with the Corona on them and I would use it all throughout winter just in case. I can imagine you are ready for summer. Ha! It has been unseasonably warm up here and no snow!! Don't know what is going on. I will send you some of this warm air. :-) That is Tillie in my profile pic when she was a baby. She is now my favorite hen. :-P
Have a lovely day Bella! :-)
Wow, you guys sound so cold up here! Sorry to hear Feathers is shivering under the heat lamp! Cold temps like you have will do that to birds, especially if they are still molting. How is the rest of your flock doing? How is the weather today? Cool and cloudy here but the chickens wanted out for a bit. We aren't too cold yet but any day now the bottom is going to fall out of this tolerable weather and winter is going to really set in!! Hope you are doing well Bella and your flock is fairing well through the cold winter. :-)
Hi Bella! Sounds like the Corona will work just as well as the Bagbalm. The Bagbalm is used on raw and sore udders and such. Good healing qualities. But use the Corona. But in these temps, some birds may be frost bite on the comb no matter what you do. And actually if she isn't interested in the heat lamp at night, this is a good sign she feels ok. Keep me posted! I hope everything else is going well. :-)
Hi Bella! I am not sure what that is, but anything that has some sort of healing qualities that also acts as a moisturizer and protects the skin will work. How is she this morning??
Awww thanks Bella!:) *hugs!* Lol you should come to my lodge! We get elk about once a month! They sure are annoying and beautiful creatures!
My granddad is ok. We got him to eat and drink tonight. He keeps trying to get his sling off because he forgets he broke his arm and he thinks the sling is what is causing the pain:( He is sleeping now. My dad is over there on watch duty until 3 am:/ It's just SO stressful!! Thanks for your prayers!:)
Good morning Bella!! Wow, you guys sure are cold and at these temps it is a challenge to keep frost bite away. I am sorry about Jackie. Make sure your birds are roosting near to the floor and not up high where all the moist air is. Approximately 1 square foot of vent space in your eaves, on both sides, one side lower than the other. Only close off some of the lower side venting if it is really going to be windy at night. Tack on old towel to your roost bar as chickens lose heat through the feet. Warm feet mean warmer birds. And use a 2x4 with the 4 side up too so they can tuck their feet under their breasts to keep the heat in the feet. (they can get frostbite on the feet too) Try some Bagbalm in Jackies comb. Bagbalm works far better than vaseline at preventing and healing frost bite. Put it on everybody's comb too. I hope you can get her healed up soon. Frostbite is very painful for chickens. Try not to rub the area too much. Stay warm up there Bella!!!! :-)
