my experience has been if I have to help a chick hatch out it usually will not make it in the long run. However it doesnt hurt once its started zipping the egg then you can help it along if need be. Just dont get upset if it doesnt make it. Good Luck!
Personally I like them to be at least 3-4 months all feathered it. You may want to look at covering that wire section up come winter time. Its the draft that will kill your birds not the cold. Best of Luck!
Some Vet-Rx (pick up at local farm store) on the comb wattles and around her nose wouldnt hurt. When I get several birds that start to sound congested I put a few drops in their water. Keep an eye on them and see if they get worse and weather/season change is part of it. best of luck.
A pic would be appreciated for folks in your area looking for blues...Im curious who did you get these from? Especially at 350 for a pair. .I show some quality birds but never have paid that kind of money for a pair...100 bucks maybe but i couldnt justify 350
If you look at what your getting per dozen and how many eggs you would have gotten, I wouldnt be hesitant to at the very least ask for 15 bucks for each bird you lost. You can possibly find replacements for that price without worry.
Lice or mites? you can spray with tick and flea spray under wings, back of heads, and around the vents(cover them)...Mites are the devil and will kill a bird QUICK! Best of luck! I wouldnt use sevin dust on chicks...thats just me.
My birds run for the coop when it starts raining. I would leave it bare, well it will become bare with them scratching. They will track in the mud and moisture on your shavings inside the coop but thats part of it.
You should be able to see worms if he's got worms...If you know what i mean. I would get him something to make sure he isnt dehydrating...Vitamin /electrolyte supplement (its like gatorade powder) in his water would definitely help. Also Im curious to what your weather is like...its been well...
First and foremost your going to have a pecking order issue...Not so much an issue but they will mess with each other until everyone knows their place...I have always had the best luck putting them in at night...After the birds are up on roost and the lights out, I then put in the new birds...
Good possibility...very good that is! Get yourself some electrolytes/Vitamin supplement at your local feed store and put it in the water. Also be sure to water your birds at least daily in this high heat! Best of luck!
Sounds like a cool idea. What I have found from my end...I had two regular metal nest boxes. One had square holes and the other had round holes with a small entry to it. It seemed to have given the hens more security and privacy than the square hole one. I ended up getting rid of the round hole...
AC, sorry to hear that...County Fair's are iffy. Even if you dont show again there next year I would at least bring it to the attention of the 4-H superintendent of the "three ring circus" that person is operating.
On any show I only take care of my own birds, my daughter has been showing for a...
