why did my cayuga ducks stop laying?

My two cayuga hens stopped laying 3 days ago, I was wondering the same thing. Maybe this is normal for them?? Our ducks are 8 months old and these are the first ducks we have ever had, so I don't know what to expect. The days are getting shorter though, so I hope this is normal.

    County Fair in the mornings...

My childhood summer memories revolve around showing rabbits at the fair. Going daily to feed and water the rabbits, learning where all the best game booths and food vendors were located. Winning a few bucks occasionally in the rabbit show (pun not intended). DS spent last week doing the same...

Opinions on a wall mounted plastic nest box

I am considering buying this same nest box. Have you tried it yet? Would you recommend this? I am currently looking at buying it for a pen of bantams, but would hope that a full size chicken would use it also in the future.

OUR CHICKS CAME EARLY, wait scratch that, our corpses came early =( -updated with pics-

I gotta ask, why did you order 35 chicks when you didn't have chick starter? I wouldn't feed raw egg. Maybe try some boiled egg mashed with cornmeal or oatmeal? Get them on a commercial chick feed as soon as possible though.

Thought I'd Share...[WARNING: Image may make people vomit/faint]

When I was 7 and my brother was 5, he was chasing me down a dirt hill and fell. He broke his arm, and I remember to this day that it looked like an "S" - just like this picture! I haven't seen anything like it since, and have sometimes even wondered if my memory is correct (it was over 30...

    Bantam salmon faverolle roosters

I have several bantam sized salmon faverolle roosters for sale, they are 4 months old and ready to take care of their new flock. Although they are bantam sized, I have some in with my large fowl sized flock and they do well. These beauties are quiet (relatively), gentle, and respectful of...

I want to be a vet. Do I NEED to take pre-cal in high school?

This is from the Mississippi State Veterinary School website, prerequisites needed for entrance. Take the calculus, it will pay off later. You can also talk to your guidance counselor about this. http://www.cvm.msstate.edu/academics/entrance_requirements.html#academic

    Traditional New Years meal

We have had pork and sour kraut on New Years Day for as long as I can remember. I also cook black eyed peas with ham hock, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and always invite family over. Tonight was a first, we had green tea after dinner!

    Ducks won't go to bed

So what exactly are sky poles? Are they similar to ski poles? Maybe they are similar to my "rooster getter", a miniature red plastic rake with a wooden handle, about four feet long. THe chickens and guineas know exactly what it means and I don't even touch them with it. Sorry, I don't have...

    Incubating dirty duck eggs

OK, just read this post and this describes my eggs in the incubator exactly. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=606986 And the eggs are cayugas! What I couldn't figure out was the variability of color in some of the eggs and the thickness of the coating. It makes sense...

    Incubating dirty duck eggs

Thank you for the great suggestions. I am going to keep my fingers crossed, but as of tonight when I candled them (day 5), 12 out of 14 are developing. I will look for a small squirt bottle to keep in the incubator for occasional spritzing. Maybe they aren't as muddy as I originally thought...

    Incubating dirty duck eggs

I am new to incubating duck eggs, and received a dozen last week from a breeder. I knew that waterfowl eggs were typically dirtier than chicken eggs and that chicken eggs should not be washed before putting them in the incubator. So I assumed it was acceptable to put unwashed dirty duck eggs...

    Silver-Laced Sebright crossed with Orpington?

Are you sure that the farmer didn't have a third rooster which might have been killed in the couple weeks before the egg was laid? Chickens can hold sperm, but I'm not sure how long. So when you asked what roosters were present when the egg was laid, the farmer might have been correct in...

    Starting up a 4-H program?

When my son became old enough for 4H last year, I found that I was in the same situation with the lack of a 4H club in my town. I went through the application process to be a 4H volunteer when I was invited to be on the poultry committee last year. Involved a written application, reference...
