Traditional New Years meal

We have had pork and sour kraut on New Years Day for as long as I can remember. I also cook black eyed peas with ham hock, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and always invite family over. Tonight was a first, we had green tea after dinner!

We used to have Irish Boiled Dinner for New Year's Day... corned beef brisket, cabbage, potatoes, lots of butter LOL. I used to make that, but we are eating healthier these days.

I made Asian lettuce "tacos"... ground chicken with herbs and spices and onions and garlic and chopped peanuts, wrapped in a romaine lettuce "taco shell" (lettuce wrap). YUMMO... that's what we had for New Year's Dinner this year. Starting the year off right and getting back to the healthy eating we were doing 2 years ago. I feel better already.

Corned beef and cabbage with potatoes and butter (and probably a loaf of French bread, too) would not have fit into my healthy new lifestyle.

We had ham, collards, cornbread, sidemeat, black eyed peas, a green salad, fried cabbage. Homemade pound cake for dessert!

Yeah, we have been having 60 degree weather here, and a barbecue is in order for our household. Mmm... I can already taste the barbecue chicken wings, with the crispy skin, and a little char around the edges. Yummo! I can't wait for the pasta salad, the potato salad, and the cream cheese corn. I can't wait!

I cooked up some blackeyed peas (hamless, but with lots of onion, garlic, and tomato) and a box of Jiffy corn muffin mix with a can of sweet corn mixed into the batter.

When I ran some down to my mom she seemed surprised and delighted that I'd remembered. Now to make time to take down her tree...
