I can't get one tonight as it's dark but I drew the spot on this picture where the wounds are. Even when their wing is resting I can see the spot but it also goes under the wing. About the size of a golfball. I will take pictures tomorrow if my actual hens.
It wasn't that they were loose it's they didn't even reach down as far as needed. On either side. Maybe I didn't buy good enough saddles but it's difficult to know when buying online.
I need advice on what to do if my roosters claws/spurs are cutting the sides of my hens. I have already used the Dremel to file his claws and spurs. I have bought saddles for the hens that were having the issues. I bought the largest size and they did not even cover the spot where the sores are...
I am not wanting fertilized eggs but I have a lot of hawks around my house. Already had two instances where a hawk landed in my yard and my rooster chased it off. My chickens free range for probably 8-10 hours a day. Just trying my best to keep my hens alive and I feel my rooster is at least...
I have 2 hens that have pretty large sores on their sides and under their wings. Im assuming it is from my roosters spur because both hens have it on the same sides. I have been spraying vetericyn and silver honey on the wounds and I tried vet wrap but they won't keep it on. Is there anything I...
Yes she only is this aggressive during mating. She does do the occasional peck when they are getting treats. I was thinking it is jealousy because she tends to stay with the rooster 24/7. Just worried because she is probably twice the size of the others and is jumping on their heads. I have a...
I tried looking through the posts for info already posted. I'm trying to see if anyone has dealt with a hen that will stomp, peck and pull feathers of other hens while the rooster is mating them. This hen will run from where ever she is and basically stomp on the other hen while she's under the...
I was still considering my options but leaning towards not. Unfortunately I have no way of keeping him separated so might just have to find him a new home. Thank you for your response.
Yes he is 4 months old. At first I thought he was trying to assert his dominance but the amount he is doing it is concerning me. Especially since he is ripping out their feathers each time. These are my first chickens so I wasn't sure what is normal and what's not.
I have 4 month old chickens. Is it normal for the rooster to grab the girls by the neck and rip their feathers out? Or drag them around? They are never doing anything wrong he just does it for no reason. They are not mating. He just hurts them and walks off like nothing happened.
Okay. I bought the antibiotics. Unfortunately even after paying for expedited shipping it won't arrive until Friday. Im not sure he will make it so long as he is becoming more lethargic each day. I will keep giving him vitamins and care and hope he makes it. Thank you everyone for the help.
I will buy both ASAP. I hate to see him suffering. Would you recommend the enrofloxacin in liquid form or pill? I really appreciate your help and everyone else who took the time to reply.
I have a local feed store I can call tomorrow. Everything I'm seeing online says last year a law was passed that all antibiotics have to have a prescription. I will ask them if they have any recommendations for a vet that will see my rooster. I started giving him electrolytes since Tuesday. I...
