I went to a poultry show and saw a "show" sultan. I noticed the head was full of densely packed feathers like a polish. After talking to the owner he said he had used a polish in the breeding. Mine don't have that same look. However mine look more like the old pictures of sultans. In a...
She is about a year and half old. It hasn't been very cold here yet so I didn't know if that had something to do with it. I was beginning to wonder if she would be the first chicken to need a sweater this winter.
So at the start of summer our rooster made Buttercup his favorite. She lost a lot of feathers. Unfortunately a fox ate our rooster in June. I kept thinking she would regrow her feathers by now. Shouldn't she be molting? Do I need to do anything for her? Cold it be something else keeping...
The sick chicken seems to be alert, eating and drinking as far as I can tell. The only thing I have noticed is it seems to be colder than the others. It is the first to run under momma.
I have 3 one week old silkes that have been hatched from mail order eggs. I have a brood hen that has hatched them and mothering all 3 chicks.
One of the chicks a few days ago started mouth breathing. I started giving it Polyvisol because I couldn't figure out what else to do. However...
I just started keeping chickens a year ago and ended up with a rooster accidently too. I was really freaked out about eating eggs out of my backyard let alone fertilized ones. However I made a cake with them once and quickly realized that there is no difference. Just try and see if you can...

Well in my limited experience it doesn't seem to hurt them. Provided it isn't lead paint. Eventually my rooster stopped obsessing over the paint and moved on to other things.
Bummer!! I was afraid that was true. So in hopes to keep one of the polish. Thanks for the opinions. So on a related note, anybody want a polish rooster named Skunk? Lol
Yes and yes. Once they know the chickens are there they will be back. Maybe not the next night but soon. They are very smart and knew the dog wasn't around. They will also attack at 3pm not just early am. Trapping it would be the best remedy but good luck they are sly. The dog should keep...
