    Undesireable Silkie traits?

Thank you so much! I will get some vitamin/electrolyte into her....it has been extremely hot here and the stress of adding her to my flock probably brought it on.

    Undesireable Silkie traits?

Are there any traits that Silkies are prone to. I was told by someone that because of their skull size/shape they can have some issues with balance and dizziness. I have a bird that is doing this weird head-jerking twitch and was told not to worry about it and it was caused by the skull? True...

    HELP.....Hen actinig weird -jerking head

Quote: What is "gapeworm"? This is a very reputable breeder in our area - he is a RVT. I can't imagine his birds would be wormy.

    HELP.....Hen actinig weird -jerking head

Otherwise acting normal. Just got this bird last night from the same breeder I bought the rest of my chickens from as day olds. I immediately noticed her doing this head jerking motion - very weird. Any idea what it could be?

    Young bird having neck twitches/spasms

Just picked up a new young Silkie hen to ad to my flock. When I let her out of the crate she started to shake her head a bit then started having a twitch - jerking motion to the side. She was doing it again this morning but seems fine otherwise. Any ideas?

15 week old Bearded Silkie Roosters - White

Really nice birds bought from a local breeder "Performance Poultry". Show quality birds but I ended up with too many roosters. Will consider trades. I will post pics later this weekend.

    Chicks outside!! *Update first morning*

I feel your pain. We decided at 3 1/2 weeks the chicks were definately outgrowing their brooder and the dust was unbelievable! The first night in the coop I got up and checked them twice....of course they were perfectly fine. We kept them in for a week then the weather turned and got...

Anyone good at sexing Buff Standard Brahmas?

Quote: If you can post some pics, I should be able to help you out; although waiting till 6 weeks old on the brahmas is a safer bet. PM me when you get your pics up and I'll take a look, 'k? Here's the criteria I use: according to UC Davis Veterinary Care Program. 2. Physical...

Anyone good at sexing Buff Standard Brahmas?

My chicks are 4 weeks old tomorrow. When do you think I should be able to sex them? Thanks everyone!! I will try and take some pics but if anyone has any tried and true "the feathers are like this on a pullet and like this on a roo" or anything to do with the combs I would really appreciate it...

Can I Bring My Chicks Outside for A While Yet?

It was about 22 here yesterday and I took my 2.5 week old chicks outside for about an hour and they were wanting to stay in the shade. At first they were a little loopy but then they settled down and figured out how to scratch in the dirt and grass. Have fun!

Has anyone in Eastern Ontario moved their chicks out to the coop yet?

I have 7 Silkies and 11 Brahmas - all 2 1/2 weeks old. I would love to get them into the coop with one or possibly two heat lamps so they have lots of room. I was wondering if anyone else has moved them out yet. This week the outside daytime temps will be in the upper 60F low 70F (low 20ishC)...

Thanks Alan. I have given up hovering! They started eating the paper towel too and seem to be fine. I am not hovering any more!

Thanks everyone! They are all fine this morning. They pulled back the paper towel in places and shavings are everywhere but they are still kicking I've got to stop being such a worrier. Love my chickies!!
