It looks like what we use for covering strawberries and cherry trees to keep bird away from the fruit. It works. But like everything it has it's issues, it's plastic so doesn't last more than a couple of years and that's if you take it down in the fall for the next year. The other problem is...
Hi everyone;
Just found this thread. Does anyone in SW Wisconsin plan to have some Muscovy ducklings this spring? My daughter and I are looking for some. Thanks.
Are there any breeders in Southern Wisconsin? I would love to have some of these guys for control of the pests around us like the ticks that they are reputed to love.
Thank you so much for the advice. I had first looked to see what kind of circulation a chicken might have in their legs and couldn't find anything. But much to my relief she is up and around as if nothing happened. I did check to make sure string didn't get embedded but I'm sure she didn't...
I suggest trying regular old vegetable oil to smother the mites if that is what it is. You may have to do several applications but the plus is that you and your birds will become closer especially if what you're doing makes them feel good (mites usually itch). (Not a vet just a farmer)
One of my silkie hens got a feed bag string wrapped on her foot. I cut it off (the string) but she is not standing up on them is there something I can do to help her. she may not have feeling in them at the moment. I won't go in to how many times I've told my family NOT to leave feed bags...
Thank you everyone!
I just got more chicks from Murray McMurray, and as usual they came on time and alive with 2 extras. Can't wait to see what the extra chicks are!
You mention a tank that you are keeping your chicks in. If you haven't cleaned it out in that week you may have an ammonia problem. Ammonia will cause lung problems and it doesn't move unless you have an airflow that you won't get in a tank unless it is perforated at the sides. If you have...
Just recieved 20 americanas, 5 Brahamas, and 2 special chicks from Murray McMurray hatchery. I got two phone notices that they were coming and my PO called this morning at 7:30 am all are happy and healthy.
the 5 brahamas are going to my daughter and I am refreshing my american flock with the...
I agree, piling chicks means they are cold. Worse if they stay that way some of the bottom chicks will be squashed and die. Give them some heat for a week and then move the heat source away to drop the temp until they are comfortable with the outdoor temps. then take the heat away. Make sure...
In the evening pick up your hen and look under her tail around her vent. Use a flash light and look quickly, she may be bothered by mites. If she is you will see them running from the light. You may want to turn off the flashlight and wait a couple of minutes and look again as they move very...
