I must he honest... I went after him (chased him). I tried to scare him -- which I think I did. He has just never been aggressive toward me. With the change in weather, should I make an attempt to handle him more often? I just don't want this to turn into a habit.
I have raised my 2 SLW hens since they were day-olds. When our new coop was purchased, we received a same aged (at the time 8 months) Maran/Americana rooster which has been a decent addition to the flock (he was not used to being handled). We have had him for 4 months. He has been a...
I have 2 SLWs that are close to being a year old. They started laying in August 2013 and have been laying consistently until now. I have not seen an egg from either one of my girls in 1.5 weeks. I have noticed they are molting a bit as there are feathers wherever they dust outside and in the...
The tail feathers are straight but they're rounded on the edges for hens and more pointed in roosters. Send another picture of Marilyn now. It would help compare growth but I'm gonna have to stick with my original statement. Those birds are both Roos
Send picture of the two so I can compare. Do you only have 2 chickens? Or a coop full? Mine are now 20 weeks and they talk a lot in the morning when I go to the coop and of I disturb them while they're sleeping. And only one is laying. Are either of yours in lay?
The first 5 eggs were dark brown, now the last have been light brown. Can I conclude that 2 are laying? or the feed changes the egg color? The only signs I have to go off that I think that two are laying... when I go to pick them up they squat down and put their wings out a little bit. I don't...
I have two SLW hens. What sold their gender for me was the feathering. Could depend on the cross or hatchery, SLW is not a breed you can judge on comb and waddles. It's all in the feathering (more white throughout back and chest, dead giveaway) The pullets tend to lace quite nicely by 5...
what does it look like without a shell? Their droppings have changed too.. I know, weird observation but Ive noticed they poop in the same place now and sometimes its a big white ball....
There was a dilemma with my two chickens... For a while I was convinced they were both roosters, then only one rooster, now... ONE is def. a hen :) Found 1 egg Aug 1. Now since then (10 days later) I have only seen 5 eggs (2 of which were broken on the floor of the coop). It has been 5 days...
I suppose patience is a virtue. ******... If he crows, he goes! So give it another month and Ill know you think? Where does one get a golden or blue laced?!
I've seen other SLW hens with combs like that, thats why I'm convinced it's a hen! That and for the breed, other roos have more white throughout their body. Is there any chance they could both be hens?!
I only have two and the other hen has a little blood on her comb so I think they're pecking each other. They're the same size the only difference is the comb. I'm scared its a roo! Whenever I go to the coop "it" clucks a lot like its talking to me but no distinct crowing sounds
Can roosters look the same as hens? (feather pattern) Ive seen hens with bigger combs but still not sure. They are 4 months, when would he start to crow?
