That is alot of eggs.
I am on day 6 today and after candling I have about 11 out of 22 that I can see development in. A couple are possible. I will be happy with 11 if they all hatch, however, it is a far cry from all but one with local eggs. I am going to have to re think...
Candled some eggs today to see the damage created by my turner the other day, still a little early for me to tell but some did have veining. Hoping I get at least a 60% hatch rate since they are all shipped eggs.
I got back from the farm auction yeasterday and went to check on the eggs. My brand new brinsea incubator was hanging almost upside down on the auto turner!!! Of coarse husband and I ran into the room to catch the bator and try to figure out what went wronge. The short link on the autoturner...

Can I ask how you got free eggs? I call the MSU poultry farm once a week to see what is laying and Angelo has never metioned free turkey eggs to me;free white table eggs; but never turkey eggs.
I pay $2 a bird. The place is USDA inspected and MDA inspected every year. My husband wants to sell the meat at the local farmers market so we need a processor that has these regulations for us to be able to sell.

Good to hear.
I'll set my first hatch (in a Brinsea or ever even) here in a couple days to hatch along.. setting quail, so I have a couple days to fiddle with exactly how I'm going to keep humidity right.. it still falls too much while I'm at work. Any suggestions for that?
ETA: which...
Set 8 Cochin eggs today, 4 blue, 4 partridge. I will be setting 15 more eggs tomorrow AM for a total of 23 eggs. The best part is that the hatch date is APRIL 1ST. I wonder what sort of "fools" I will be getting that day. Between the layer flock, the 20 new chicks in the brooder and more...
I will join you. Set 8 Cochin eggs today, and first thing tomorrow I will set 15 asst. eggs. We have a Brinsea and it works great. Granted every time I buy eggs my Husband tells me exactly how much money the incubator is in the hole. Guess it is time to start selling some chicks, he is all...
Don't have the bantams but I did just get 6 standards. My husband wanted them because they look "evil". I am hoping they will develop nice color and become the start of a breeding project, we'll see.
sorry posted at same time.

Yep...this! The exit point is the same, although of course they come from two different systems (reproductive/digestive). My eggs never seem to have poop on them. Are they sleeping in the nest box?? Or they could have poop on their feet when they're...
When the egg is in the process of being layed the opening to the bowels is covered. The egg will come out of the chickens body clean. The dirt is coming after the fact. The chickens are probly sleeping in the nest box or sitting there for a while after laying or it could just be dirt or poop...
