At least you're on top of it! I just brought in 3 new pullets to my flock, and noticed (during quarantine, thank goodness!) that one has a definite respiratory disease, possibly infectious laryngotracheitis. Luckily, I have multiple coops, but it looks like I'm going to be using a loooot of...

Oxine might be a good solution for you, if you want to check it out!
Her eyes are clear, without any discharge or bubbling, which seems odd to me. She's sleeping a good deal lately, but when she's awake she's alert and very responsive. But boy do I hope it's not Infectious Laryngotracheitis! I'm also curious as to whether the two EEs have had this previously, or...
Hmmm, no mouse or rat poison around. The coop that they were living in for the past few days had been cleaned, with fresh shavings & dirt in the run. Thanks for the idea, though!
My girls love it when I tie up a "Tether Ball" of cabbage, lettuce, or cucumber and hang it from the ceiling of the coop or run. I let it hang just low enough to the point where they have to jump to get a bite, and it keeps them fixated for hours!
Hi there! Thank you in advance for any help that is given!
So on Monday the 14th I purchased a Cream Legbar pullet & 2 EE pullets from a breeder. I've had the 3 new pullets quarantined from the rest of my flock, and just yesterday noticed that the Cream Legbar had a lot of sneezing, as well as...
I'm inclined to say that if she's eating, drinking, and pooping normally, she's just relaxing. If it persists for multiple days, that's something to possibly be concerned about. But if you're talking about a chicken who's been quiet and tired for less than a day, I'd just keep an eye on her and...
You guys have no idea how thankful I am for all of the insight you've all provided me with!
I'll be looking into those heat plates and automatic door openers, for sure. Anything to make my (and the chickens') life easier is a plus!
If you guys will indulge me in one last question (sincerest...
Ahhh, what a good piece of advice! Will make sure to complete the coop now before they arrive! The Coop section was actually what led me to this whole website, and let me say that I have never been so thankful for anything in my whole life.
The pictures are so helpful! I'm using a shed for my coop as well (I've started on the transformation but it still needs work, so maybe I'll keep the chicks indoors for a week or two to give me time to finish the shed/coop and then move the brooder into that).
I love hearing everybody's...
Thanks guys; I've been researching for a few months and it seems like there will always be more to learn. I'll definitely poke around the forums some more and read the variety of opinions before I jump into anything!
Again, thanks for the wisdom everyone! Invaluable, to say the least!
Thanks guys!
So question about the raising of chicks -
I assume that I'll get mine sometime within the first few days of hatching. If the temperature outside is already warm (we're looking at about 85-90 in August here), how long should I wait before moving them outdoors? It seems a little...
