    Scared Hens

I bought 6 pullets last fall. One tuned out to be a rooster. They all run from me when i go into the fenced area outside their coop. I had chickens before that were so frienclly that they ran too me when i started toward them. What could be the matter with these hens?

    Sick pullet

I recently lost one of my pullets. Nothing seemed wrong with her, she just died. I bought some new pullets and one of them was acting very standoffish so I was afraid she might be sick. My husband put her in isolation, but when he did, he noticed that she was blind in one eye. Would that...

    Hens bullying new pullets

I have read the related threads but didn't find a solution. I was recently given two hens about 4 months old. The 4 hens that I have will not accept them. I have a coop that is 5' X 8' and a run that is 8' X 12' and a fenced in yard that is probably 30 X 30. The 4 older ones run at them anytime...

What kind of chicken is this?

My friend has this chicken and wonders what kind it is. He says it is a huge bird and he’s wondering about the feathers on its legs. He says it hasn’t laid any eggs.

    Roosting in the daytime

I don’t think so. She is a large hen. She had been pecked a lot when I first got her. But I haven’t notice any thing since.

    Roosting in the daytime

I have an EE that is spending most of the day on the roost in the coop. She wasn't laying for a long time. yesterday she layed a blue egg that was smaller than she usually laid in the past. Is she trying to stay away from the rooster?

    Molting

They don't appear to be loosing any feathers but there are some feathers in the run. We caught two snakes in the nest part of the coop. One had eaten 4 fake eggs. Found their entrance and havent seen them since. The black one in the photo is broody. I think two of them may be laying. I get...

    Light in the nest

I have put a light in my chickens nesting room. It comes on in the morning. Their food and water is in the run and the automatic door doesn't open till the sun comes up. should I put food and water in the nesting area too?
