My husband actually had the machete in hand last night and I said "oh, we'll just let him go way out in the sticks" and I made I'm put it in a bucket. UNTIL, this morning!!! And now that I know that **** thing ate all 19 of my very viable chicks I am going to machete him myself!!!
Well, we bought 17 acres where the previous owner sold day old chickens (we were told she had hundreds at a time), so this is more like a chicken barn :/ It needs a bit of fixing up and we are doing it as it comes, but we thought they were pretty secure and haven't had any problems for 7...
So last night I went to close up my girls in the coop and found a 6 ft TX rat snake snuggled up in the nesting box!!! We took him out and that was over... I thought!! This morning my sweet broody mamma hen, who was about to hatch a HUGE clutch of 19, got off her nest and started eating. They...
Does anyone have suggestions on growing fodder in TX heat? I don't really have room in my house and everything I'm researching says 65-75 degrees. If anyone sprouts for their chickens through Texas summers, I would live to hear how you do it!!
Oh
I want to go so bad! lol.
I'll be in Houston though.
Can you take pics?
If you're allowed, I'd love for you to share them...:)

Have your chickens been having a field day with June bugs?
I had a bunch of them get caught in a birdbath every night because it is located by a light that is on every night. So now I have every water holding container I could find under that light...I think I harvested about a pound of them...
And tomorrow (night of Wednesday 23rd) there will be a meteor shower. I'm sharing because I missed the Eclipse last week and I am not going to miss this one (and don't want you to either, in case you hadn't heard of it)
I really can't believe it's not the standard. Maybe expense is the issue, but I was wasting so much pine chips by changing the bedding all of the time and it takes very little sand. Bonus+++ no fire hazard if your using a heat lamp!!
I know it's been a bit since this post and my chicks arE HUGE now, and very much at home outside in the coop. But I have since hatched and started over with all the fun baby stuff again. This time I used paper towel for 2 days then I put a half inch layer of sand...they LOVE it, and do do I...
Good luck with your HOAs!! We ended up moving out of a master planned community because they would not allow backyard chickens. Hope that the rules can be made a little more flexible for our little gals ;)
My neighbor's dog made 100 times more noise than 5 hens could make. Hopefully this forum...
