I'm pretty much decided on using industrial hemp for this very reason. It has no dust, is softer and more absorbant and it breaks down quicker.

I know this post is several years old... but I really like the idea of brooding outside. It just seems more natural to me. Thank you for your thoughts. I will investigate further.

ok now I'm confused... LOL Industrial hemp in the coop, keep it dry. When I clean the coop out... throw it in the run and compost with other materials. So the coop is Deep Bedding, the run is Deep Litter or Cold composting? Do I have it right now? :D
