Just one so far. I'm expecting a few more soon. I did have to clean out under her as she had broken three eggs and it was quite smelly. Most of the eggs under her were put there by our other chickens on different days but I stopped that about 3 weeks ago so we should see some eggs hatch...

Checked again today and smelled something funny so I got her out of nest and she had two more broken eggs. Cleaned nest up and she is back on. We'll see how it goes....

Actually we've had two more hatch. One more EE/Red and we think a Barred Rock/Red. Pretty sure 4 eggs are not going to hatch not sure on the other two. Do you ever candle at this point to see if the chicks are still alive? When do you remove eggs and give up?

Well, I have a staggered hatch and all (6 eggs) but 3 eggs are in lockdown (I'm turning those with a straw). Other than seeing the crack in the egg what other signs should we look for that the chicks are ready to hatch? We've seen a couple of the eggs move but the others are pretty quiet.

we have found one of our hens has lice. We have treated her and the other chickens (we have 5 hens plus a rooster), but she is the only one showing any signs of the bugs. Is it possible she is the only one with the infestation?

Ok I've been reading about being able to hatch eggs that have been refrigerated. We have a couple of dozen in the fridge now, but my wife has wiped/cleaned them. I've read that you should not do this on eggs you plan on hatching. How sensitive are the eggs to the rubbing/refrigeration?

Attempting our first hatch. We have a New Hampshire Red Rooster with a Barred Rock, 2 Golden Comets, and 2 EE. What will the chicks look like? Will our success rate drop because of the mixed breads?

Well, we'll find out soon. We have taken our 6 chickens that are left and put them in a crate in our garage and set a trap for whatever it is. If it's the rooster or the predator we should find out in the next couple of nights.

Rooster has been with the hens for a few months. Yes, it has been at night. It's pretty strange that our neighbor doesn't even close up the coop and the predator chose our coop which we lock up every night. Must of wanted a challenge. Thanks for the confirmation.
