Is anyone excited there will be a "surplus" of partially raised chickens people will (hopefully the right way) want to get rid of?
We have 4 older girls and are wanting to add more, but with 2 cats and 3 young kids, raising chicks doesn't sound like the best idea for us right now.

Finally finished the coop, got the HWC buried for predator proof and just need a couple bags of rocks to fill in on top of the HWC between my deck and that side of the coop to keep anything from digging over there.

Chicago is proposing an ordinance to ban roosters, restrict hens to 6, demand space ratios, and require residents to mail letters to every neighbor within 500 ft asking their permission to have hens, ducks, or other farm animals.
Residents can also petition to make their precinct "farm free"...
Between a crazy work schedule and crappy weather the build has crept along.
Also I have learned HWC on the floor of the run is a horrible idea AFTER I started to line the floor of the run with HWC.....:barnie:th
So I'll be snipping that floor out and using it later. Going to have to bury some...
Big lesson learned is I should have leveled the ground before putting the frame down, which I came to find out it was a big pain to move the frame around, dig, move, dig and finally level.
Got the deck for the coop floor put it and started to cut the beams for the roof when the rain came down...
Plan is to build some wind/snow boards that will hang on the upper end of the run walls to block out the winter some. And the roof is slanting away, I just started cutting the uprights for that today.....except it started to rain.
The 5 of them were raised together so and been living in the tiny coop that they are currently hanging in for about 2 1/2 years, plus this will be a big I improvement for them.
As for space I thought about going wider but I had a bunch of left over lumber from a basement renovation project...
