I am also looking for a decent cheap coop. I also like the Garden Coop, but we get some good winds here too. I immedtiately thought of how the wind will probably catch that roof and the coop will go flying! Unless there is a good way to tie it down? Hmm...
Well, we have plenty of shade for her, and no pond, but a creek that runs down the side of our property. She seems to do very well, so I assume that IF she wont live long, it will probably come on suddenly. She just happened to be the one that survived all this time...she's got spunk!
SO, I have read that these birds dont live much past a year? (ugh) I love that big fat bowling ball!! She seems to be keeping right up with the rest of my flock, (Rhode Island Reds and Black Giants). She is heavier on her feet, but completely covers my 1.5 acres all day everyday, runs, (not...
"make sure none of your hens have picked up any unwanted 'pecking' behavior"
What do you mean by this??
Thanks so much, all of you for your help! I will send him to the freezer along with 4 others. I know which one I will keep. I appreciate it!
I got them as babies in April, so they are about 6 months old. Is he old enough to put in the freezer?? This one roo has been progressivly showing dominant and aggressive behavior recently, even towards us.
Now, the hen seems to be okay, other than not haveing any feathers on her rump. Will...
Why?? He ripped off her entire tail, all but one feather, and her entire rump is bloody. I seperated her from the flock. Will she ever heal? Will she grow back her tail?? (If she lives).
Also, what should I do with this mean ol' Roo?? I have a flock of 20 birds... 3 of which are ducks, and...
Ok... Then I guess I will just have to figure it out as I go. I will try it and if I find that its not working, I will go from there.
Thanks so much for all your help!
Ok...So it IS possible to raise that many at a time. NOW.... I have another question. . . MagikChik, you said my hens will suffer. If I dont put the roo's in the same fence as the hens, then that will be okay, right? I was going to only put 1 roo in with the hens, (the most dominant one), and...
So, its okay to raise that many roo's together? Will they fight to the death? Is there a particlular way I need to raise that many?
Is it okay to have the roo's all fenced in together, next to the hens, but separated by chicken wire? Or will that cause them to fight?
I will be building my...
Well, I have an unexpected situation.
A couple of days ago, I posted pics of my 6 week old Buff Orps, asking how many were roo's. It looks as though ALL of them are... with MAYBE the exception of 1, (and thats a MAYBE).
Now, I already have 3 pullet Orps. that are a year old outside (along with...
Thanks for your reply. I also posted my pics in "What breed/gender are they" and everyone is just about in agreement that they are ALL roo's with the exception of 1 or 2. UGH..... Time will tell.
Not sure now about mixing them in with the younger ones..... WHAT DO I DO NOW???
Actually...
