Bald butt and swollen below vent.

Not really sure if anyone's still following this, but it have a similar problem with one of mine. It's a long story really, but she seems to have had a swollen abdomen for a long time now. A while back she had something sticking from her vent which resembled brown sacks of air, as well as a...

Something similar to crop impaction/sour crop maybe??

Hello. I have noticed over the last few days one of my bantams twisting her neck from side to side a lot, as if she's trying to swallow something in her neck. I have seen this before occasionally in other birds, seemingly when they are trying to swallow something large or have eaten a lot of...

Enlarged Abdomen, Ovaries pushed out of vent?? Internal laying?

Hmm, sorry to have jumped to conclusions earlier. What was stuck out was actually, from what I can gather, quite a few little partially-formed eggs, all kinda stuck together. It's what I'd imagine ovaries to look similar to, I suppose. I thought I knew hens pretty well now, after having them...

Enlarged Abdomen, Ovaries pushed out of vent?? Internal laying?

One of our hens has had a large looking abdomen for a while no, and I thought nothing of it. But yesterday there was something stuck from her vent, and today there is more. There appears to be a fleshy tube at one side, and what looks like ovaries, or I suppose egg type things at the other? My...

Is it safe for my chickens to be in the rain?

This is basically what I do. Just give them access to shelter and let them decide (and maybe try and dry them off if it's cold and they manage to get too wet while I'm away).

Something stuck out of Vent? (Not prolapse)

Hi all, I have a hen who has something strange sticking from her vent - it seems like a dry and wrinkled rubbery mass at the end, but with a tube-like fleshy part which extends back into the vent. I could pull it so far, but then it wouldn't come out any further, as if it was connected inside...

Can anyone else offer any advice?

    HELP! Possible Mareks Disease?

Quote: I thought that, but I don't think it would cause the neck to hang... The scabs could just be because she scratches that closed eye.

    HELP! Possible Mareks Disease?

I have a 26 week old Black Rock (I think). At first she had one eye shut, but otherwise acted normally. But for the next 2 weeks, she has gone downhill. She has a few scabs on her face/wattles, on the side with the shut eye, and she itches this side of her face sometimes. Now her neck seems to...

    Swollen/Hurt Ear

Quote: But around where I live there are no vets which have the remotest idea about poultry. We only have vets which treat dogs and cats and that sort of thing. Is there nothing else that I can do without the help of a vet?

    Swollen/Hurt Ear

Quote: It has proven to bleed more. It must be an injury of some type. It might be best to let it dry, scab up and heal itself without intervention. This will no doubt take time to heal on its own. It's also best to keep her seperated from your other birds. It has been like this for weeks now...

    Swollen/Hurt Ear

Hmm, I removed a bit of blood last night, and by tonight, her ear has bled more, as there is dried blood on her feathers. Will removing the blood cause it to get worse, and bleed more?

    Swollen/Hurt Ear

Quote: I actually tried something like that, but the blood is very hard to get off. I will try again. Thanks for the advice! Also, where would I be able get Hydrogen Peroxide?

    Swollen/Hurt Ear

One of my bantams has a swollen ear. I think that she hurt it a while ago, and it still has dried blood on the outside, and the ear lobe has swollen underneath. Maybe the swelling is the ear cavity filled with blood? Or the blood is blocking the ear cavity? I don't know whether I should remove...

    Hen with Hurt ear?

I have a bantam with a hurt ear. It is crusted with blood, and has been like this for about a week now. I can only assume that she has scratched it on something or one of the others pecked her ear. I don't really know what to do to help her... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
