Hi everyone. I'm looking for some advice.
We have 3 chickens - a Rhode Island Red and two Buff Orpingtons. They have been together for something close to 18 months, but in the last few weeks, one of the Orpies has started picking on the other Orpie. Up until now they have been great pals. The...
Hi all, we let our girls out this morning and realised one of them (a little Rhode Island red called Jemima) was limping and standing on one leg. I took her to the vet who diagnosed a broken leg and gave us some pain killer, but didn't splint the toe. I've splinted the toe as it was starting to...
Thank you for the reassurance.
She does seem fine apart from the sneezes. They are moving into a new coop today, so that will be nice and fresh for them.
Thank you for your reply. They are all moving into a new coop tomorrow, so I hope that will help if it's a dust issue.
No sign at all of any kind of congestion and her flock mates are all fine.
Her eggs have all been perfect shells, no wrinkles. Just two with no shells.
I've opened up the...
Hi all.
We have a sneezy chicken. She's a year old Rhode Island red. She's laying fine, apart from two soft shelled eggs (a week apart).
She active and bright and isn't doing the huddled poorly chicken thing.
The sneezes are very gentle and there is no discharge at all, her nostrils are...
Hi. One of our 2 Orpington buffs has been acting a bit odd. She's very jumpy which is new, but really crouches if you go up to her. Her comb is really bright red, her appetite is good and she active. However, she has not laid for a couple of days and follows our other Orpie into the nesting box...
Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone might be able to put my mind at rest.
We got 2 Buff Orpingtons in spring this year and one of them started laying about 3 weeks ago. We had six lovely eggs (probably 2 every 3 days).
Then we got two soft shelled eggs that were broken when we found them, so we...
The flock consists of an older girl, Connie who is 7 years old and 2 young buff orpingtons who aren't in lay yet.
They get layers pellets, but are on flubenvet pellets to worm at the moment.
She is hiding away, but not huddled up in facing the corner like they get when they are really bad...
One of our girls (a 7 month old hybrid) laid 2 shellless eggs this morning. Shes the only one laying, so they must be her eggs. She's very quiet and hiding in the coop. Comb colour is good, she's had some food but not as greedy as normal. Temperature is fine, no signs of dehydration, but not her...
Hi guys,
One of our girls got a bit lethargic and stopped eating 5 days ago. On day 1 (Sunday) we took her to the vets who prescribed some antibiotics. We brought her inside to separate her from the others and she has picked up to a degree. She wanders round her pen and picks at food, but...
Hi all,
With the UK Bird Flu warning, I am planning on moving our 3 chickens into our green house for the next 30 days - its the only in door structure that we have. Its about 8 feet by 10 feet, so I think it is fine size wise, and we have never used chemicals in there, so it should be safe...
The vet suggested one of three things:
1) Stress had caused her to "abandon" the egg part way through development - possibly as a result of external influences.
2) A lack of calcium in the diet - I have started to mix ground up egg shell into their feed in case this is the case.
3) Infectious...
She gets access to grass for half an hour in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening, and for most of the day 3 days a week when someone is home.
Age wise she is just over a year old - she has been with us for about 13-14 motnhs and we bought her at point of lay.
Hi,
I'm hoping that someone can help. A few weeks ago, one of out chickens laid what looked like a sausage skin - we didn't find it until evening though.
She was fine ever since, laid normal eggs (maybe not as many as normal though). A couple were rounded at both ends rather than pointy at...
