Wanted to give an update- 12 out of 13 eggs hatched successfully this past weekend. Only one unhatched looked like a fairly early quitter. Thanks to all for convincing me to move the eggs and broody back! Attached is a pic of one of my favs 😍
We have a pretty mean rooster- well a great rooster in terms of rooster behavior but I was worried about him attacking the chicks as he is very attached to this hen. I was able to move the whole nest but she's just not having it so I will move them back and see if she goes back to the nest in...
Hi all
Moved my first time broody bantam this morning as she was nesting in an unsafe spot and shares the coop with 6 other hens and a rooster. Made her a nesting box in a dog kennel out on our enclosed porch and moved her about an hour ago and she hasn't sat on the eggs since. I put a blanket...
Ordered eggs from two separate sellers and I received two dozen today (super early) but the other dozen has been delayed until Tuesday of next week (estimated delivery date). I originally coordinated so that the eggs would arrive within a day of each other but now I am looking at almost a week...
Could be that the chick is still absorbing the yolk sac, which could look like yawning or panting. Keep an eye on it, could be a full day before they are out sometimes. Good luck!
Hi
No, not runners so I am just going off of other images I have seen from runner sites. The bulge seems to be consistently there but I will keep a closer eye to see if it ever goes down at all. I guess the inability to get up off it's back is the more concerning part.
Thanks!
Hi all
I have a (supposed) fawn white Indian runner duckling that doesn't seem to be growing like a proper runner and I am not sure if it's some sort of structural issue or genetic thing so I am looking for some opinions, pics attached. He (or she) doesn't quite stand like a runner and seems to...
Kind of hard to tell but the gray one looks like my Blue Swedish when he was a day old. I don't have a great pic to show coloring as they had a red heat lamp but I attached a stock pic.
Hi all
I had a duckling hatch this morning, about 4 hours ago. It still had some membrane attached and maybe yolk- I'll post a pic- and it's drying up ok and peeping but it's also kicking A LOT. I am wondering if it's trying to detach the umbilical? I'm just going to leave it be but just...
Hi! I am currently incubating Metzer eggs, purchased 10, got 11, and had 5 infertile eggs. Sent them an email on day 8 and they had me wait until day 14 but were very quick with a refund. I agree with including a pic, that's what I did. Good luck!
