My 1.5 year old cream crested legbar is very lethargic and has runny green poop. She is not interested in her food. No visible injuries and all of the other chickens are showing no signs of lethargy. I noticed she looked slightly under the weather yesterday but she was eating then so I wasn’t...
Going to get some new chicks today but just found out they were not vaccinated for mareks. My older three chickens all came from hobby breeders who I doubt vaccinated. Would it be best to buy the vaccine and vaccinate the new chickens myself or just leave them be. I have corrid on hand in...
Ok. Just sharing what worked in my experience. I always prefer to do what is least intrusive and stressful first, but know how dire egg binding is. Have you tried dissolving the tums in water and then feeding it to her with a syringe (without the needle)? I know when my hen was egg bound she...
I have never given fluids to a chicken - thankfully mine have never needed it yet. However, I worry about it in the summer as it is so hot here. When I used to work with raptors we would give sub cutaneous fluids on the sides under the wings. Do you think it would be ok to give them in the...
i agree it sounds like she is egg bound. Very upright walking is a strong indicator. I would soak her in a bath. I usually only fill the bath high enough to just touch their stomach but it seems to relax them a lot and can stimulate laying. I'd leave her in the bath for as long as she wants...
Are they scabs? Not that I am an expert at bumble foot in chickens, but I have seen it in raptors and this does not look like bumble foot to me. Google "avian bumble foot" and you will find a lot of pictures.
Why are you only soaking her for 15 minutes? I have had a hen egg bound twice now and I just let her soak until she's ready to get out. The first time it was about 5 minutes, the second time it was about an hour and a half. It's worked both times though.
Thank you very much. I will get some pics of her and the monstrous egg she laid two days later. She seems back to her normal self even though she continues to lay massive eggs. Poor girl, must have huge egg genes.
They egg wasn't intact, it was completely without a shell, like an egg you just cracked. But the yolk was intact and the white also came out as a whole blob, wasn't mixed up or looked damaged at all. I sure hope she is ok. She's a lovely bird
So I got home from work today and one of my cream crested leg bars looked very off. She hadn't laid in a few days so suspecting she was egg bound I put her in a bath. She laid a huge egg, followed by another egg with no shell. She perked up a bit so I scrambled an egg for her and she ate most...
It is possible that she would be gasping from the pain, but usually that is from severe acute pain. Birds are really tough when it comes to pain tolerance.
Is she making any unusual noises? A lot of times if they have a respiratory disease you will be able to hear them cough, sneeze or wheeze. If she does have a respirator illness, tylan works really well. I'm pretty sure you can buy it at most tractor supply stores and the dosing information is...
