    Worming questions

I have a hen with two 3 week old chicks she hatched. They spend the nights in my garage & the days in an outdoor pen in the 1 acre pasture where my other adults free range. This morning I saw a live roundworm in the mother hen’s poop. Have been reading & it sounds like safeguard is the way to...

    Struggling chick?

I had 7 chicks hatch under a broody 2 weeks ago. One that I believe was the last to hatch on 10/31 seems more sluggish & sleepy that the others. It mostly stays in one place chirping, closing it’s eyes a lot & shaking its head. The others all are on the move a lot, pecking, scratching around...

    First hatch, exciting!

Chick watch 2019 has wrapped with 7 adorable babies! Hatching took around 54 hours start to finish & I never saw my hen leave the nest during that time. I held food & water up to her several times a day & she seemed grateful. Mom is doing a great job with them.

    First hatch, exciting!

I see two fuzzy chicks! I don’t think she’s been off the nest at all since hatching started despite my hovering. Haha. It’s hard to be patient...can’t wait to get a full view! How long will she stay on the nest after the first hatch? Starting to wonder what my game plan will be if she gets up &...

    First hatch, exciting!

After returning from a week of vacation I found my bantam jungle fowl on a hidden nest of 8 of her own eggs. I candled & 7 were developing. I was estimating her to have been on them about a week at that point. Since her nest was on the ground in an unsafe location I moved her & the eggs at night...

What Coop Camera Do You Have?

Great post I’m bookmarking. I don’t currently have power or WiFi in my coop & I worried a game cam would go through batteries like crazy bc it would constantly sense movement. Do you have to bury an Ethernet cable?

    Marans gender help

Thanks all! Pretty sure the small white one is a cockerel too now. Will take another pic but noticed the comb looking more red & wattles yesterday. Unfortunate odds.

    Marans gender help

What do you think of these Marans genders? I got them about 2 wks ago from someone who was unsure of their age (long story) but two...a splash & a blue are clearly older than the other splash & black. The older splash has a very aggressive attitude towards the other chicks & me. Do any of them...

    Moving Broody Mum & Eggs

I have a jungle fowl hen who is known to do her own thing. I discovered her on a hidden nest of 8 eggs (her own) in an unsafe location today...on the ground in the woods outside the livestock pasture where my flock free ranges. I’m amazed the hen & eggs have survived my house dogs & the myriad...

    Breed?

Purchased this chick from TSC as a speckled Sussex pullet but he’s turned out to be neither as he started crowing yesterday. I believe he’s bantam bc he’s quite a bit smaller than my pullets the same age (7 wks). Anyone know what breed he is? Clean, slate legs & single comb. He’s in the front...

    Texas

Does anyone know where I can buy this Automatic Chicken Door in person around Fort Worth? I'm in a bit of a time crunch & can't seem to figure out how to find someone who carries it in store around here.

    new chickenguard self locking door

Has anyone used the new self locking door from chickenguard? I received mine in the mail today & was surprised to see so much plastic. At first I even thought the door was plastic but upon further inspection it might be painted aluminum. I'm trying to get something in place before we go on a...

    Wing clipping...yay or nay

I clipped my hens a few weeks ago by myself after watching a few videos & it was really easy. I waited until close to roosting time, caught the ones I could & waited for the others to go in the coop & then did them too. Mine free range on a fenced acre with a livestock dog & some goats. I’d...
