I've got 2 feeders and 2 waterers. The little chicks are staying very close to their Ecoglow Brooder. There has been some pecking especially by a bigger Barred Rock. And it's also seemed to make the bigger chicks a but more aggressive toward each other, something there was never an issue with...
There does seem to be some bullying especially by one bigger Barred Rock. It has also seemed to make all the bigger chickens a little more aggressive toward each other. They did ok through the night but still seem to be having issues getting along this morning.
I have two sets of chicks -- 10 four-week-olds and 11 two-week-olds. They are separate but can hear each other, and I'd like to take out the divider so they can all be together. I tried this for a few hours with close supervision, and the smaller ones seemed really insecure and huddled...

That's so interesting. We are about 450 miles from Meyer and I've had 3 bad experiences. I'll not order there again as it was a depressing way to start our flock losing so many.
Yes, pine shavings or kiln-dried wood chips or dried oak leaves are all good options. A dirt floor isn't going to be healthy for them so it will need to be heavily mulched. Anytime it smells just add another layer of mulch and the chickens will turn it themselves looking for worms and bug and...
I had terrible experience with Meyer and we are 2 states away. It's hard to know when to blame the post office and when to blame the hatchery, but I definitely won't order from them again after 3 bad experiences.
We recently started our first flock of chickens! We have 21 chicks, all doing great and growing like weeds.
I had a lot of fun researching breeds in the evenings. I read about chickens for a month straight and thought of nothing else. :) With 2 young children, gentle and docile birds are...
2 of my 3 faverolles didn't make it through shipping. The one that did is the tiniest chick we have but very happy and energetic now.
Sorry for your chick loss. :(
