I'm actually in England, and it's been warm over here but not overly hot. She has been kept inside and out of the sun since she started acting strange and its quite cool inside the house. She has had sugar water with salt and bicarb of soda through a syringe every hour or so, and she ate a tiny...
She seems slightly more active than yesterday, she's moving her head around and she stood up at one point to turn around which is an improvement. She still hasn't opened her eyes though, and she still seems very lethargic. She doesn't seem to have any injuries at all, there's no visible wounds...
We managed to syringe her some sugar water with salt and bicarbonate of soda every hour or so. She also ate a little bit of scrambled egg, which is good. She was drinking water yesterday before she started acting strange, but she hasn't been interested in it since then. She seems more active...
Okay, thank you for the advice. I'll look her over again and be as thorough as possible. If she doesn't get any better and keeps deteriorating I'll have to try to find a vet (which could be hard with lockdown still happening). Thank you again for all your help, I really appreciate it.
I did some research on the symptoms of an egg bound hen and she doesn't have all the symptoms, but it suggested a warm shallow bath which I've done now just in case. She pooped again in the bath which makes me think she may not be egg bound because apparently they don't poop and when they do...
I was feeling around her abdomen to see if she could be egg bound and her tummy does feel hard but it's difficult to tell with all of her feathers still coming in. She did poop, which I think is a good sign? She's still not moving though, still very limp and lethargic
Is this possible with her being less than six months? I've read that silkies start laying at 7-9 months, and some even later? Thank you for the suggestion though, it's really helpful, I will have to do some googling and find out what to do to help her if she is egg bound
She hasn't pooped since we brought her inside, about six hours ago, before that I don't know because she was in the garden. She's never layed eggs, we figured she was still too young since she's not 7 months yet.
*I'm posting this again because there's no replies on my previous post and I'm getting desperate, I'm really worried about her.*
Hello, in need of some help please. We recently got two five month old Silkie chickens, a hen and a rooster. We've had them for about three weeks and they've been...
I made an account for backyardchickens so that I could ask a question about our chicken who is sick. I've used the website a lot when looking for advice concerning hatching and incubating eggs, so hopefully it can help me out now as well.
Hello, in need of some help please. We recently got two five month old Silkie chickens, a hen and a rooster. We've had them for about three weeks and they've been doing great, if a little timid. We noticed that our hen was lay still in the grass and went to go check on her. She wasn't responding...
