Thanks for reminding me! Unfortunately I have since sold all of the babies, but when they grew up they all looked exactly like Rouens! The color differences as ducklings was not related to sex or what they would look like as adults. Just one of those odd things I guess!
Thank you for all the helpful responses!
Now that they are a little older, I have a better idea about some of these chicks, but some are still confounding me! The first ones turned out to be white/white frizzle Cochins.
Three of them are similar pattern but different in color
All are single...
My husband got a few bantams from a feed store this morning and we aren't sure what they are. Any ideas?
The other one that looks like this has faint dark smudges on its back. Porcelains?
This chipmunk one might be old English?
Then there are five that have the same style but differing...
A year ago we got our first ducks, a Rouen and a Khaki Campbell. The turned out to be a pair, and our female khaki decided to sit this winter. We just hatched ten ducklings from this cross and were trying to find pictures of what babies from this cross might look like.
Ours came out half...
I just got this little guy from a feed store assuming it is a WH, but I wanted to check on here.
It's only a day or two old, and I understand you can confidently sex WHs early on based on bill color. Dark bill should be a boy, right?
I've got a pen of two roos and two Cochin hens. This week, BOTH of the hens decided to start sitting! They are cuddling together in a corner of the coop and don't seem to care what eggs they have. When one takes a break, the other sits on all the eggs, but they don't seem to be fighting or...
Here are some pictures of the father. He is essentially pure white with a faint hint of yellow on the shoulders.
Chicken genetics are new and confusing to me! We breed ball pythons and those genes are so much simpler!
Thank you! Your breeding project sounds like fun! We have eggs from our splash to a black frizzle in the incubator, so I'm excited to see some frizzly Blues soon! I'm wondering if your red x partridge crosses would turn out like these partridge boys with the red breast.
And we are so excited...
Thank you, junebuggena! Chicken genetics are still very new to us, and we got the white EE roo from a feed store, so who knows what could be hiding there. Do you know why the buff would get darker color coming through?
4 weeks old and doing awesome! So excited this little fighter made it.
Anyone want to guess the gender on Heebie? I'm thinking boy but I can't tell with these pea combs.
4 week update.
Here's the almost buff
It has gotten a lot more buff to it, but there's still lots of dark speckling in the neck, wings, and tail.
Any thoughts on gender? The pea comb is harder for me to read.
I'm leaning toward boy unfortunately.
Next is the white and black chick that we...
When we bought a new house that already had chicken coops built in, we decided to expand our flock to include some bantams, something my husband has always wanted. We searched a few online breeders and decided to get a straight run lot of 25 assorted Cochins.
Well they sent us two of about every...
The hubby and I just hatched our first eggs in an incubator about two weeks ago. One little guy pipped the full circle of his egg, but then just sat there instead of coming out. We gave him several hours but he wasn't coming out! We popped the top off and discovered that his wing had been shrink...
