    Sick Ducklings?

Thank-you Kathy. She swallowed the first pill. Hopefully she'll start to improve soon.

    Sick Ducklings?

The liquid didn't go so well... most of it ended up on me and I don't have any tubes small enough to get it directly into her crop. She weighs approximately 150 grams. If I divide a tablet into 8 parts, each piece will contain approximately 2.8 mg. If I gave her 1/8th of a tablet once a day...

    Sick Ducklings?

Good idea! I've had plenty of practice with dilutions and conversions in my Chemistry courses. As long as I can get the tablets to properly dissolve, this should work well. Hope appears normal, she isn't showing any signs of respiratory distress. Faith is still sneezing and breathing heavier...

    Sick Ducklings?

I could take them to the vet, but it's hard to justify a minimum of an $80 bill for two hatchery ducklings. I have to think logically for a moment. Especially since they don't appear to be in immediate danger. I made a few changes to the brooder. I changed the 100 watt bulb to a 250 watt...

    Sick Ducklings?

Kathy, my heart sank when I read your post. The one time I slacked on biosecurity... I had assumed that hatcheries require rigorous testing to ensure healthy birds since they produce them in massive numbers. I will call TSC in the morning and ask what hatchery they came from. To be honest, I...

    Sick Ducklings?

I can figure out the correct dosage. I just wasn't sure if I should treat them with an antibiotic. They're only 1 1/2 weeks old. I pray it's not contagious...

    Sick Ducklings?

I believe I have sulfadimethoxine, tylan injectable, and 22.7 mg baytril tablets on hand, but I don't think I'll be able to divide the tablets small enough in correct proportions and I don't want to inject them with tylan. That leaves the sulfadimethoxine. Do you have any idea what this could be?

    Sick Ducklings?

I went to TSC last Friday to pick up some supplies and ended up bringing home 2 ducklings. When I got home, I noticed one had some clear fluid dripping from it's nostrils. I thought it was just water. One week later they both have drippy noses and are wheezing. They also have lesions on the...

    Silver laced Cochin Bantams

I hatched out 11 SL chicks so far and I have 11 more due in 2 weeks. By the way, I managed to get those 11 chicks by incubating nearly 150 eggs. Nearly all of them were infertile. Vent feathers have been trimmed, but it didn't help. I think I may need to AI if I really want to get going.

Can a goose be given Baytril?

Does anybody have an opinion on the use of Baytril? I want to start his treatment, but I'm a bit nervous. He's very loved and I don't want to lose him.

Can a goose be given Baytril?

Thanks RURU. I also found this: "Baytril is the most effective and safe antibiotic for remedying bumblefoot. Many of our Majestic rescues have come to us with this type of foot ailment. One pill of 22mg Baytril is administered daily until the swelling disappears and any black scabs are no...
