Hosing down the girls in HOT Weather.......YAY or NAY

I do the mud puddle thing and it works great. I also had no luck with frozen water bottles... they looked at them like they were plague carrying varmits. I also refill the water bowls 2-3 times a day depending on the heat. we've been near 100 lately and they seem to enjoy the puddles the best...

    free range and oyster shell

I dunno- but with my own birds that JUST started laying and I free range them a bit as well, they devour the oyster shells. I think because they are white in relation to everything else in the yard that is dirt brown they find them attractive... I actually wondered if they could eat too much...

Can I use powdered lime to whitewash the coop

My understanding from other posts is NO NO NO. The lime will burn the chickens feet and such. You are better off to use food grade diatomicious earth if you are trying to rid smell and pests. Why are you looking to clean out your coop and dust it? That could turn up some better answers for you.

    chickens and swimming pools

OK- call me crazy- but I'm trying to come up with CHEAP ways to keep my chickens cool in the prairie heat this summer. Would they be interested in something like a mud bath in a kiddie pool? Someone said on another post they like to keep cool on the wet ground. What if I filled a kiddie pool...

    Got rid of the roosters

FREE was the key word to get rid of my roosters- and quite frankly, I think I'm lucky to have done so. He was craigslisted for 4 weeks! A local man wanted to keep a few around the yard to scratch stuff up and to keep some hens in order. He'd had roo's in the past and his neighbor's dog got to them.

    Got rid of the roosters

OK- I just re-homed my roosters (2 of them) leaving me all hens. What should I expect b way of behavior? Will there be any noticeable change or will it be as simple as one hen coming to the front to manage the others? They are 11 weeks old now.

my 16 week chickens hate pellets

Hahaha I think the real issue is they have developed a taste for the "human" foods instead of the chicken foods. Mine are the same way Given the choice between pellets, scratch and my daughter's left over bread crust, they always run for the bread crust first... then the scratch,... then the...

    Egg Storage: Refrigerator VS. Countertop

Sounds like you have the main info down! After reading on the threads on this stuff I would wash and put them in the fridge. I plan on either using them right away or cracking and freezing them into ice cube trays for single egg white servings (best for baking). I have so many friends and...
