my neighbor feels horrible about it and immediately said he would pay for more, even asked where he could get them, that's not an issue, they are only a couple of $$ as babies, it's just that it takes so long for them to lay. thanks for the input
Hello,
We had a hen house massacre on Thanksgiving day, our neighbors bulldog was loose and I wasn't aware of it, I let my hens out in the yard for their daily excursion. The neighbors dog came into the yard and killed two of them. Does anybody use shepherd dogs to protect their flock? Is there...
ok, so I got the fake eggs and put them in the nesting boxes, and i've dropped one in the floor of the coop. My hens haven't laid any eggs that I know of in about 3 weeks, I know egg production slows down in the winter, but I'm also wondering if because of the new hens it may have interrupted...
I think I have a problem, I've had 3 laying hens for the past couple of years, I just recently added a couple of pullets and a rooster. I no longer have any eggs. Today I went to the coop and saw an egg broken open and had obviously been eaten. Is there any way to break this habit? What should I do?
I'm having the same problem, I've had my pullets (2 mos old) living day/night in a dog kennel cage inside the chicken coop/run with my older hens for about one month. I try to let the new ones out to mingle with the older ones thinking they've been together long enough to get used to each other...
I dont see the need to put her in a cage seperately, i've got two other nesting boxes and am still getting enough eggs, i just wanted to make sure it was ok for her to do that all day, all night, doesnt seem to bother the other girls so i'll just let her sit i guess.
I've had my 5 hens for a year now, only one of them is broody, she sits in the nesting box all day long. I havent seen her get out at all. The other hens go about their business, when i go to gather the eggs, she growls at me and tries to peck me. I can still get the eggs, and I dont mind, but...
i keep my 4 new chickens in a box in my basement (they are approx one month old) i took them outside in a larger cage for some fresh air and grass etc. They were fine when I put them back in their box last night. Today I discovered one of them dead, with its guts hanging out (assuming the others...
I just had the same thing happen today, I had the chickens (about one month old) outside in a cage to get some fresh air for the day. They were fine last night in their box I keep them in, in my basement, when I checked on them today, one was dead, one was pooping blood and another is just not...
thanks for the input. I haven't heard and "crows", so I guess they are all females. I guess they just take turns laying eggs, they did really well over the winter considering how cold it was here. They still produced 2-3 eggs in the bitter cold.
