MyPetChicken is a scam - do not buy from them

I think they work with a few hatcheries, but my day old chicks ordered through them came from Meyer.

MyPetChicken is a scam - do not buy from them

I haven't bought eggs yet, but did buy day old chicks. They came from meyer hatchery and all arrived alive and healthy. All 7 lived at least 3 years and 4/7 are still alive after almost 6 years.

Just molt, a bully, or something else?

Feed them eggland's best layer mini pellets. 17% protein. I'll give it a go. They are pretty focused on me when I am around them, as I'm their food guy. I have a camera in the run and havent noticed any picking on that either.. I'll try a magnifying glass. Any advice on best way to treat...

Just molt, a bully, or something else?

9 hens. Some free ranging but mostly in a 12 x 12 x 7 run with 12x5 coop. Easter eggers, orpingtons, and an austrolorp.

Just molt, a bully, or something else?

About half my girls, mostly the ones that are about 15 months old (but some on the 3 year olds) are missing feathers almost exclusively on their necks and heads. Is this just a normal molt, do I have feather pickers, or should I treat for mites or lice or something? They are all otherwise...

Any cold hearty, docile breeds that look like red jungle fowl?

I love the idea of having some, but that doesn’t sound ideal as mine are pets. All my other girls come when called, eat out of my hand, follow me around the yard, etc. Seasonal laying and stuff doesn’t bother me as much as them real being skittish.

Any cold hearty, docile breeds that look like red jungle fowl?

Would 1 or 2 actual red jungle fowl do ok mixed with my flock or would he confinement (or cold) drive them crazy? I spoil my chickens every way i can but my run is still only 12x10 for 9 chickens. 5x10 inside coop space.

Any cold hearty, docile breeds that look like red jungle fowl?

Thank you! Our run is built like a tank and they only free range when I am outside with them so we have not had any issues with predators. Just thought it would be cool to have something I can show my daughter, nieces, nephews, etc that looks reasonably like the chicken ancestor, but don’t want...

Any cold hearty, docile breeds that look like red jungle fowl?

I am wondering if anything with coloring similar to the original chickens, red jungle fowl, but that are docile and cold hearty exist? Would love to get something with that look, but want it to be happy spending most the time in the decent size run and handle Wisconsin winters.

Review by '' on item 'Orpington'

I love my orpingtons. Started with 2 buffs when I started but have a black and a splash as well now. Hoping to add at least one blue, (was hoping for one when I ordered but only got the black and splash). They are friendlier than my easter eggers, and healthier/better layers than my...

    Meyer hatchery - never again

I know you weren't asking me but the healthy birds I got from meyer were easter eggers and blue/black/splash orpingtons

    Meyer hatchery - never again

I got 7 chicks from Meyer, through my pet chicken. Picked them up on April 4th. They were shipped during a blizzard and I was worried sick. They all arrived perfectly healthy and 7.5 months later are thriving. Much healthier birds than the ones I got from Murray McMurray the previous year...

    Plastic Wrapping Runs

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I only have 9 hens and they have about 5' x 12' with plenty of roost area inside in addition to the 12 x 10' covered run. They seem like they have enough room to not pick on each other and so far from what I've seen they come outside if it is freezing cold...
