    The Wyandotte Thread

I may not be the best one to answer your questions but I am fairly new to chickens. I have 11 silver laced Wyandottes pullets that started laying 2 weeks ago and are consistently laying 8 eggs a day. This works out to 265 eggs per hen per year. They are large beautiful birds that are not...

We had our first egg at 6 months and 2 days old (out of 11 hens.) Unfortunately, it was layed on the gorund next to the water bowl and the hens have not even explored the nest box!

They're a week older than Mine. Looking back at my photos from a few weeks ago, I was quite amazed at how much they have matured.

I've enjoyed this thread and watching the progress of the breed in the US. However, I wonder if anybody have any idea how many mature birds are now being breeding in the US?

Now I have a question of my own. Hopefully some one can help me with. My birds are bout 20 weeks old. But none of the hens have even been in the nest boxes. I would have thought they would have at least explored it some time in the last 3 months. They all free range all day & put them selves...

Quote: I'm not an expert (mine haven't started yet either & probably won't for at least 2-3 more months.) I just hate to see a question go un answered. Anyway, rumor has it they often won't start laying until they are 26-28 weeks or more. Hopefully, someone else will chime in if I'm off.

I just want to add my 2 cents about the Turbos. They are great. I know there are other great breeders too but I have only worked with the Foley's and they have provided excellent support after the buy as well.

Quote: I have to keep biting my tongue about asking for critique too. Personally, I'm not so concerned about feeding my birds... 17 of them only eat about 50 pounds a month since they started free ranging around the yard. I'm just anxious for a few of them to turn out to be the perfect...

So I would guess the hollow comb is also genetic. Is it also recessive?

Thanks Rudy. That really helps. I'll head out Nd have another look at my birds. It seems like the hollow comb is prety common in younger birds so I guess it gets better as they age.?

Thanks all. The SoCal Fair is not too far so I may visit there. Is the format of the fair prety similar to the APA shows? Craig
