    Arizona Chickens

Hello my fellow AZ peep! Such sad news and I'm still dealing with it. Been a day of crying on and off again. I don't know why I'm so emotional over a chicken but I am. Lost my first girl (Dumplin' - buff orp) yesterday afternoon. Came home from work, changed my shoes and went to the run to...

    new chicken lover

Welcome! I joined for the same reasons. My first go at "urban chickening" as my husband calls it and there is so much great advice here. :)

I saw the same ones. Not a fan of straight run as I can't have roosters. Might do it anyway and roll the dice.

    Arizona Chickens

Thank you! Been a VERY busy couple of days. Me and my fiance eloped and got married on Christmas Eve at the courthouse (we'll have the official celebration in June like we planned originally) and then Christmas with our blended family of his kids/my kids yesterday morning and then extended...

    Arizona Chickens

Merry day after Christmas everyone! No snow here but PLENTY of rain. As of yesterday we've gotten 2" over Tues and Wed. Bright and sunny today and hopefully after I finish work I can get out to the garden and coop and survey what havoc the rains might have caused beyond our cursory "run...

Let’s play the gender guessing game

Got it, thank you so much! The one pullet in question has the largest comb of all the others and "she" is the most aggressive. Her favorite pastime is to peck at me if I approach the brooder, charge and perch on the edge of the open door then try to peck me when I reach in to change water or...

Let’s play the gender guessing game

I'm obviously new to the chicken venture but can you explain why 6 weeks would be easier to identify? I have four 6 week olds (my first flock) and so far I believe they are all pullets but one. I'd love your input on how I can tell better at this age. Thank you!

    Hello from sunny AZ!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Yes the upcoming wedding will be exciting - we're likely going to marry in Patagonia where my fiance is from. Looking forward to visiting there again and having all our family and friends to celebrate. :)

It was 35 in our garden when I left for work this morning (I leave at 5:15 - have to be to work by 6) so not much warmer than you - winter is here! :)

    Hello from sunny AZ!

Hi everyone! I'm Heather and I'm new here. Because I'm not feeling very creative, I'm just gonna post answers to the ones in the "Introduce yourself!" post. Here goes: (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Brand new! got my first 4 about 6 weeks ago and added 4...
