    wormer for 9 chickens

After I lost a chicken to gape worm I started using Molly's Herbal Wormer. Search for it online. It's a weekly treatment, I make up a small batch of oatmeal and mix the wormer into it, the birds love it.

Does anyone else use Molly's Herbal Wormer on their chickens?

I know this is an old stream , so hopefully you are still active on the site. I am waiting for my first shipment of Molly's wormer to use for my chickens, and I am interested to hear about your experience with it. Are you still using it for your chickens, have you noticed a difference in...

16 week old lost her coop mate

I had two 16 week old birds that were purchased together, living in a coop separate from my seven birds of mixed ages from 1-4 years old. One of the 16 week olds died suddenly today, the other is fine. I had been slowly introducing them all to each other. Now my dilemma is what to do about the...

    Electric fence or clip wings?

My teenagers were also flying up and perching on my fence, and on the roof of the coop as well. We clipped their wings, very easy and haven't had a problem since.

First time killing chicken. Advice please help

We also processed our first 2 birds this way (minus the cone, just strung them up by their tied together feet). The most important thing is for the knife you use to be super sharp. The sharper the knife the better the cut. Then we held the body while bleeding out into a bucket below. This part...

Integrating new birds to existing flock

Update: Last night the newbies were on their new little roost. Tonight when I went to check and lock them up the new roost had fallen to the floor of the coop , but they were all up on the roosts with the older girls! Yay! So it seems as though things have settled down, and the bully isn't...

Integrating new birds to existing flock

I'm into several days now, have rearranged the roosts and put in a lower one and it still seems that they are on the floor. I can't be certain what happens in the middle of the night so maybe they are going up and maybe they aren't. They don't seem to be pecked, no signs of injury or blood, run...

Integrating new birds to existing flock

So out of the 4 younger birds one of the BO has moved up to the roost and doesn't seem to be bothered by anyone. Tonight I tried to put one of the SLW up on the roost and the bully moved over and started pecking her head so I moved the SLW back down off the roost. My other thought is to make...

Integrating new birds to existing flock

Mitzi - I didn't realize that being on the roost with the others was challenging dominance. I'll just let them be where they want and hope that eventually they'll move up to the roost on their own. Gullygarden - While they don't technically have to sleep with the others the extra coop we have...

Integrating new birds to existing flock

Thanks for your responses. My one remaining question is should we continue to put them up on the roosts at night or just let them stay on the floor of the coop until they are ready to go up on the roosts themselves? They are perfectly capable of getting up there - they are very happy to roost...

Integrating new birds to existing flock

We are in the process of integrating 4 almost 5 month olds (2 Buff Oprs and 2 SLW) to our existing flock of 5. They spent the first month in their own coop and run with the older birds looking at them. Then they spent a couple of weeks free ranging together but sleeping separately. Now we are...

    cleaning the coop

You can get Diatomaceous Earth (DE) at the Issaquah Grange. Specify that you want FOOD Grade (I think it's the only one they sell but it doesn't hurt to make sure). It comes in 50 lb bags and lasts a long time.

fertile eggs on plane... 5/26/11 UPDATE... Ca. eggs are here in Ill. !

I wanted to take some eggs to my cousin on a flight from Seattle to Boston and couldn't find info anywhere. I finally called TSA and was told that eggs are not allowed (more liquid than allowable limits). I didn't want to chance losing them at the airport so I didn't bother.

by request the ETHNO BOTANICAL thread

Fabulous thread - so glad I found it! I'm always looking for alternatives when caring for/treating my birds. With just a small flock of 7, having just finished my first full year of enjoying them, I consider myself, when compared to many other posters, a newbie and glean lots of useful...
