Hi from Shelton, Connecticut! My family of four kids (Derek, Devin, Daisy & Little Roy) live here with husband/father Roy and our many pets - two labs, mini doxie, rat terrier, two rescued barn cats, two guinea pigs, seven rabbits and our flock: EE/Dorking X Rooster Moolie, 3 RI Red hens...

    Rhode Island Reds?

Hard to get real "purebred" chickens - looks more like new hampshire reds than rhode island to me. Wouldn't be a bad thing, I think the new hampshires have a nicer disposition. I've heard RI roos can get very nasty! Laura

Fox attack and poor my little hen :(

After two years and no problems we had our first fox attack a month ago. Got both our guinea fowl and a favorite little hen, a cochin named Mrs. Beazley. Realizing predators are not evil and only acting on their instincts and need to eat doesn't make you feel any better -- but it does sound...

    Earliest Age to Integrade?

Since it has warmed up nicely here in CT, what I did was take an old rabbit hutch (legs cut down to 10") add a next box to the side and surround it with wire mesh (like a fence or corral). I have used this as a brooder but now my four chicks have this area to themselves with their own...

the number one rule of coop building

Gosh, it's good to know I'm not the only idiot who has done this! Yup, built it in the driveway then it took three of us to lug it UPHILL and set it in place. Too funny! Laura

Who all here gives away their eggs?

I'm another person with roosters, so I too give away eggs as "bribes" to the neighbors! I'm lucky in that they all claim to love the sound of crowing in the morning -- whee!!! Actually, so do i ! Laura

I'm awesome looking but what am I?

I have a d'uccle rooster too and I'm looking for a hen for him as well (porcelain). I think you will find that he is one of the sweetest roosters you will know. There is a d'uccle thread that is fairly current, I have a picture of Sammie with my two kids ... so sweet. Have fun! Laura
