I have a Buttercup cockerel - he is very friendly, sits on my hand, loves to be stroked, drinks water out of my glass - in fact - he's areal darling......not at all flighty - talks all day long - and is always happy....
I had a little chicken die too. It was only a few weeks old. I was devastated. I thought, perhaps, a piece of hay had somehow got stuck inside of her - I had rescued her from being attached to a piece or grass only that morning - and she had seemed fine afterwards - then she suddenly died later...
I would not be able to bear it if the dog got my chickens. Yes, if he has killed chickens once, he will continue to do so. You'll have to make a choice. The dog OR chickens. It's really not fair to poor defenceless wee chickens to do anything else. Sorry.
Oh - I also have three hand-reared Wyandotte bantams crossed with Sebright bantams. Fabulous birds - wonderful pets, highly ornamental, very tame and gentle - but a bit bigger than the straight Sebrights. However, they have the gorgeous markings of the Sebrights - I have one who is black, with...
I have a hand-reared gold Sebright - and she is just wonderful - more like a good friend than a pet...but....so tiny I worry about her.
Pekin bantams make gorgeous pets, and a lovely friendly chickens - lots of colours are available too! So, I think I'd go for a Pekin Bantam.....
Thanks very much. I don't want to take any risks with these gorgeous wee dots of chickens. I just thought that their own "chicken" mother would have a better chance of intergrating the babies into the flock - but I'd be perfectly happy to raise them myself, if there was any risk involved....
Thank you very much - I have just used the saucers for the doll's cups and saucers - put organic "honeygar' into one saucer and dry chicken mash into the other - and then watched then - sure enough, the tiny dots of chickens (Buff Pekin Bantam chicks) went straight for the water - after I had...
I have four newly hatched chicks - yesterday. I was advised to take the chicks away from the mum, because mum still has six eggs under her - these eggs are not due to hatch for another five days - so, in order for the eggs to not be abandoned, I had to bring these four new babies inside. They...
Oh, I forgot - garlic is an anti-cancer agent as well - I have lost chickens to cancer - one with tumours, and one with leucaemia - it made me so sad I had to find ways to protect my darlings. Non-dangerous ways at that.
Thank you. The cider vinegar is for all-purpose health, the garlic for eradication of mites and worms, plus immune booster, etc, the ginger and cilli are for heart and lung health - onions are good for lungs too - and cod liver oil will boost vitamin D, and stop that paralysed leg problem that...
Your Buffy was gorgeous - and I feel for you. I just lost my Jane, a buff Pekin Bantam.....I think she had pneumonia - and a heart attack. She was such a sweet chicken, and I'm uncertain what her age was - probably over six years, and I'm not sure of the lifespan of a Pekin Bantam - does anybody...
