I saved a bunch of egg cartons in anticipation of my flock but I have more than enough. Send me a message, I'll send my address, and you can pick them up off my porch.
Thank you for bringing this up! I would like to hear from someone with a large-ish farm. How does 1'x1' per hen sound to you? From my recent very small scale chicken experience, this sounds bad. I'm in favor of inexpensive food, respected-not pet luxury, but I think these message boards say...
Take lots of pictures!:D Go meet your post office staff, let them know you are eagerly awaiting that package, and ask if there is anything you can do to get it right away with minimum local travel. It sounds like you have all your supplies lined up ready to go. Welcome! Best of luck and enjoy...
Uh oh. I'll keep and eye out and guard my ankles! The wyandotte was the one I got for looks and I think she is gorgeous so I'll try hard not to spoil her. Mine seem a pretty nicely functioning flock. They get along well, not a lot of backyard drama.
Interesting. My Wyandotte is very chill, so meek as to be low on the pecking order. My sex link matured very quickly and was big, top bird for awhile growing up but not very big nor top anymore. Still, both will follow me hoping for treats.
Yes she is. Thanks for the info.
I'd also like to say I am SOOOO glad I got one sex link as a newbie with a variety of breeds! Besides her personality, it was great having one I knew for sure was a hen for the couple of months where each had their turn as ("Yipes is it a rooster?") the largest...
Big news in my coop this morning- our first egg. (It's the small one behind the 2 larger trainer/decoys.) I don't know which lady did the deed. They were 20 weeks yesterday.
Sierra snow melt revealed this former neighbor. I’ve seen coyotes, weasels, and dogs around but guessing a big possum? Anyone have a better idea? Spine was about 2 feet long.
:lau Yup(pies)! I read this as embellished satire. Chickens are definitely "in" around "the valley." I've seen the tour-de-coop on Craigslist. And people are welcome to quote whatever crazy fantasy price they want. I think we can all even laugh ourselves silly (and keep it to ourselves) on these...
I'm a newbie and you sound very well prepared. My two cents is that one ought to talk to talk with one's mail delivery people a couple of days before the chicks are expected. There is a lot of luck in exactly what weather your shipment will face. And there also seems to be some luck in their...
