I heard a local ad this morning for a candidate who was mocking his opponent in reference to him having backyard chickens. I really wish I could find it now, I've looked, but I can't remember either candidate's name. Does anyone else know who it was? I thought it was really odd for an NC...
I haven't been on in a while, doesn't seem as long as it's actually been! I see I'm not the only one struggling with predators. I spent last week shoring up the coop and the very next day, caught a hawk stuck inside it! Certainly explained some missing youngsters. I couldn't quite figure out...

So many broody hens. So so many. I admit that I have no control of the insanity. I already have 45 chicks so far this year and it's not even July yet! The broodies just keep coming and, apparently sensing I'm at my limit, they are hiding from me now...I just found one this weekend under the coop...
I'm not sure what's in the air but I already have one hen with 10 chicks and 6 more that went broody in the last week!!! Anyone need broody hen services? :p

My Tractor Supply has in the past but they go really fast...they also provide me a chick schedule when I request it. Do you have a Southern States nearby? They usually have them also...
Someone asked about Little Birdie Hatchery. I have used them on a regular basis...but not for purchasing...
I've found that the best way to get my family to eat eggs when we have a lot is to make egg salad or deviled eggs. If we still have to many, I will intentionally scramble or boil more than we will eat and feed them to the chickens as a source of extra protien. I also gift them to my kids'...
