Ah, ok. I didn't know the chicks looked identical. I just thought, from what you mentioned earlier, that my chicks had 'eb down'.
The brassy back girls are actually from a different line and different breeder. If I remember correctly, they are bred from crele and solid black birds. Not sure...
Thanks for your replies Amer! I wonder where they got the eb from. I think it's from the rooster..
I will update again if there are any developments, or when the chicks get their adult feathering.
I definitely see the mahogany effect with one of my brassback girls.
Hi Amer, thanks for your reply!
When you say red quail, do you mean with mahogany? I was thinking that too.. not sure where that came from, maybe the dad..
I do feel they are eb base, based on their down. At least I don’t have any wheaten based genes. No Db or Pg?
The silver boy I plan to...
Thanks for the replies! I did have a feeling they might be brassy back, but couldn’t find much in my research. How can you tell if they are e+ or eb?
Will see if I can cross them to my silver columbian boy the next season.
Hello all,
My saga with quail Barbus continues.
I currently have two 6 month old Barbu d'Anvers that I believe are quail, or at least a dark quail. I'm assuming they have the Co and Mi genes. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
What I'm curious about is color tone of the gold/brown parts these...
Hello everyone, just another update. They're about a month old in these photos. They do look very much like columbians. Do you guys see Db or Pg?
Any guesses on gender? I feel like they're both boys. Also, a quick correction, I realize they are actually Watermael's, as are their parents.
Ooo.. Let’s see! I would be happy to get some columbians, which means they only need a couple copies of the Ml gene to be quail. I really hope they don’t have Pg or Db..
A little 2 week update on the chicks! Sorry for the picture quality, it was getting dark. One does seem to be gold and the other silver. I hope they turn out to be quails, or something close..
Hello everyone!
Just a little update. I was able to hatch out 2 chicks from the golden roo and the gold quail. Picture below.
Looks like one is a silver, and the other is a gold? I assume the silver will be a hen. From basic research online, they seem to be eb based, is that correct? Possible...
Thanks for the tips!
Noted on the recessive mottling being hard to get rid of! Seems like a big headache! If I do focus on a solid colored flock, I will definitely keep that in mind. I am starting a black mottled flock, and will be able to use those for future test breeding. I guess it would...
Thanks guys.
I plan to pair him with a gold quail hen, the one in my avatar. Hoping for silver quails. I know I will get silver and gold hens, and golden and gold roos the first generation.
If he does indeed carry Db, Pg and the recessive mo, I will have to select for the cleanest looking...
Hi all,
Thank you again for the replies.
I had to take time to do some research on all the that was said. I'm slowly understanding more about millefleur, spangled, base, co, pg, ml and db genetics. Still not super familiar, as it would be easier to learn with examples, but I do get the general...
