Woo Hoo! I found my first two eggs from my Wyandottes. Completely unexpected. I think they are both from the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Bantams. But one could be from either a gold laced or silver laced standard.
I just came on today to figure out what my straight run Wyandotte chicks (BLRs, SL, GL) are that are also 4 weeks old.
It's hard to tell when looking at some of their combs. I'm wondering if looking at the waddle will easier to tell. With mine there is more of a difference in waddle than comb.
I have 34 wyandotte chicks that are a little over 3 weeks. There is one silver laced that has what looks like a little standard comb. All the rest either no comb starting or the rose combs that wyandottes have. This one though is no mistake. It is definately different than all of the others...
Azure Standard sells 50 #'s for $17.00.
I'm going to put a couple hives near the garden, so I won't be using it there. But there are many other uses. It is good to keep bugs out of the stored grains.
My favorite SLW is named Pearl. Because I was calling her pretty girl, so I shortened that to Pirl, or Pearl.
The only other one that I've named is Poopy. A small BLRW bantam that is really friendly. She looks like most of the other BLR's that I have and the only way I can tell her apart is a...
You're not crazy at all. The way the worlds going at the moment, your friends and family may be begging you for some eggs soon.
Not only are chickens enjoyable as pets, they are also a means to self-sufficiency, which in my opinion is the smartest thing any of us can do.
I've had my Wyandotte chicks for almost two weeks now and I've really noticed something about them. I have 28 blue laced red wyandotte bantams, 2 silver laced wyandotte standard sized and 4 gold laced wyandotte standard sized.
I've noticed that the silver and gold laced chicks are way...
We just received ours a day early as well. I wasn't quite ready and had to scramble. We bought ours from Dunlap and they sent 13 extras. Four died in shipping and a couple are pretty weak looking. But it was a nice surprise to get so many extras.
I am building a chicken tractor for a couple of my banties to give to my mom. The nest box is about 2'x3'. Do I need to seperate it into a couple different nesting areas, or should I just put in the straw and let them make there own nests.
Just curious what everyone thought of this idea. I am mostly wondering about ventilation.
It is a larger 2 person walk in shower. There is a little changing area right outside of the shower. I want to hang a sheet to enclose the walk in area so that dust doesn't get into the rest of that area...
Does anyone know of any Icelandic chicken breeders? I found the Behl farm and one other. Does anyone know if any Icelandic chickens have been brought into the US besides the original 11? I would like to get some, as they are so rare and we have Icelandic sheep, horses and dogs.
I was just wondering if some people put chicken wire on the bottom of the chicken tractor and just let the chickens eat the grass/bugs through the wire. Otherwise, how do you keep animals from digging under the walls? Or do you just have to pen them up in the enclosed part every night?
Thanks
I was thinking about getting a bunch of Partridge Chantecler's, as they are listed under "critical" with the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. I read in one of my books that they started the Rare Breed Poultry Conservation Project and offer assistance to anyone willing to make a long term...
