A few weeks ago I went on a road trip with my family and I told the neighbors to help me feed the chickens. Right after they started feeding them the chickens started to lay eggs. FYI they have stopped laying for a while. The neighbors have been feeding them the same feed the same portion. I'm...
A few days ago I have started noticing that one of my hen's feces are a little abnormal. I would say it looks like humans diarrhea, which I know is not normal. For the past few weeks the only diet change was watermelon rind. The rind is always freshly cut and isn't moldy or rotten. There hasn't...
These few days, I have always been hearing screams coming from the backyard coming from the chickens. But, when I go check, things seem to be going fine. They have been doing this for quite a few days and around the same time in the morning. I was wondering if this was some kind of call? Or a...
I was gone for a week, but they had plenty of food and water so that shouldn't be the cause we have one of those automatic food things, and I have another thread talking about how our last hen died. I was gone for a week on the road trip.
Today I just got back from a road trip, and one of our chickens was dead, it died just like the last one, same place and looked the same. The chicken was a hen and it was just laying and doing fine. I don't know if it was a disease, or if she had a heart attack or something, but If y'all know...
I'm sorry I won't be able to provide any photos for now, it is large run. There are a few things for them to do in the coop. But, they seem to be more interested in eating feathers.
I recommend trying to distract them while they are fighting with something like a treat ball or just something to get their focus off of pecking each other. I've had this problem before and throwing some food or just treats at them kinda distracts them from the fight.
I usually feed crumble that it 17-19 percent protein and meal worms that are 30-40 percent protein. In the stores I buy chicken feed from, they usually sell this. Sometimes I give them meat scraps and shell as well.
Yes, I have fed them some eggs before and they seemed to enjoy it! My friend who raises the chickens with me dosen't approve of me feeding too many eggs to them but I still do. I will feed them some more eggs when I can. Thank you for the info.
I went to feed and check on my chickens today, and I noticed my rooster Bean, and one of my hens Honey, eating feathers off of one of my hens daisy. She seemed to care less about what they were doing with her feathers, but she was losing feathers from her tail and from her back. I didn't know...
Today when I went out to the chickens, one of my hens also had some feathers missing. That hole really looks terrible though! Maybe you could try distancing her from the rooster or just make it so shes safe before more breeding. I would try to keep the hole clean to not risk any infection.
