I have two wonderful young roosters who were thought to be hens until just recently. Both are regularly handled and the Easter Egger is especially easy to work with - I can walk around carrying him! The Easter Egger hatched in June, and the Black Copper Marans hatched in July. The Marans is...
Congratulations!!
I so remember my first egg, my girl Sunflower was walking by me, squatted, laid an egg, then looked at me like 'wth' was that?!?
Enjoy the moment, and welcome to backyard chickens!
Welcome!
Yes, as others have said, the rooster will take alpha position, I'm just so happy you are going to keep him. My only advice is be sure that he's handled as much as the other and he will likely be a great pet as you move on... but if no one has warned you, chickens ARE addictive!
OH my, this appears to be the support group I've been looking for!
Current count:
3 horses
2 goats
4.5 cats (don't ask)
4 Husky dogs
1 parrot
... and yes, 63 chickens!
Last year at the fair I got 4... then I started looking at other breeds I wanted... now I am a free-range egg business. Yes...
I am interested in buying Black Copper Marans pullets or hens. I'm not set up for chicks, so need some a bit older; and I can't take any roosters or cockerells.

Have you seen this one? If not, you definitely need to. I put it on my iPad and put that by Zoe's perch and she danced along
Check it out (hope this link works!) But if the link doesn't work search for "frostie dancing to shake your tail feather" It truly is worth the effort!
Yes I did, he was the one I got the Wyandotte from as well. My Easter Egger (Daffodil) is laying, fairly large green tinted eggs. Both of them seem healthy, and Daffodil is quite the flyer. Her first night here she flew into my neighbor's tree and my husband climbed up and got her:) She's a bit...
Hi everyone, I hope all are safe after Sandy ripped through!
I live in Branchville NJ (near the Sussex County Fairgrounds) and other than some big trees down and a fence, we are in pretty good shape. No power yet, so no water either - but my neighbor has water and I have a creek that we're...
