    it appears we have a chick that is pecking at eyes, any suggestions?

    I have 5 chicks 2 days old. 4 of them seem to be having trouble opening their eyes. they are in a brooder with a red bulb. their eye lids seem to be stuck together. i tried a little warm water which helps but moments later they cant see again. any thoughts?

    When will my new babies poop?

    i usually wait till the chick is 8 hours old and are a bit more alert, then i dip thier beak in the water and shortly after they will start to poop. about two hours after that i then scatter chick crumb on the floor of the brooder once the work out its food i introduce a bowl of food.

    I managed to hatch 5 out of 10, not too bad for my second go

    Final count was 5 chicks from 10 eggs. not bad for my second go, think i'll adjust temp slightly next time.

    give them a few more days then candle them again and see if they have changed at all, if not remove them. if so then leave them.

    sorry yours died, this is my second batch. first time i had 10 eggs and only got 4 chicks then one died and the other three are now 5 wks. I put 10 in this tim and i only had one dud. candeled the other 9 night before last and all looked good. its just the waiting i cant stand.

    i would seperate it. now it has a swollen eye they will just keep at it.
