It was hatched on April 16th 2015. I grabbed the egg before it hatched from under my bantam chicken (haha yes it was comical to see her sitting on this egg but it worked) and it imprinted on me. I named it Harper as it's a unisex name.

I'm all for using medicated feed in the beginning for two weeks or so as cocci IS a problem in Hawaii and I use medication on ALL my livestock as needed. I use all the wormers and antibiotics, etc on my goats, chickens, whatever. I'd rather use them and have healthy animals than slightly sick...
I've not seen the green bag at all, just the red bag.
I'll ask again.
And you're right, I know the med for cocci is not an antibiotic but I lump it in there as all the feeds I can find but one have treatment for that. And frankly, I don't need my meat birds treated for 8 weeks....
I have some of that (its what I start them on) but the bag says medicated. Does it come in a non medicated version? I'll have to contact our feed store and see if they carry it.
I don't have access to most of the feeds that folks on the mainland have access to. I've considered trying to buy in...
I raise chickens. I raise a lot of chickens. lol
I sell pullets for egg laying and end up with a lot of barred rock and RIR roosters, plus lots of mixed breed roosters.
I eat those. Currently they free range so they get scratch and layer feed. Probably not the best for growing meat?

He was actually pretty good last night (maybe he knows what I'm thinking about!). Only crowed at midnight and then started normal acceptable rooster crowing at 5am.
I view 5am (even though it's not light for another 45 minutes) as an acceptable start time. lol
Here he is with his ladies...
No, there are no streetlights for miles. We live waaaay out in the country.
He is about a year and a half old and it has been getting increasingly worse for a couple months. We had two roosters and they would compete crow all night back and forth. We got rid of the other rooster, and now he...
So I live in Hawaii, our in AG land. No street lights, etc.
I have a RIR rooster that crows, literally ALL. NIGHT. LONG.
Sometimes he'll even crow continuously for over an hour at a time. Usually he crows for 10-15 minutes about every hour or so.
Homes in my area of Hawaii do not have...
I know that sounds like a death sentence, but some one gave me a chick.... I have MANY chickens of various ages. Never dealt with this before.
It's got pus in it's joints in the legs.
I made it a chick chair so it has the weight off the leg joints (hopefully while it heals). I'm "force...
Hey, I live in Keaau over on the other side of the island. I'm still trying to find out the answer myself.
All meat in Hawaii is ONLY USDA inspected. They turned over all inspection to the USDA a while back. I found some document at the state of hawaii webpage and also on the USDA webpage...
They were caught in cat traps in downtown Hilo when they were younger. I released them all at the same time and they formed a family! I think they are under 6 months old, the rooster keeps getting bigger and more colorful each week!
I've not seen eggs from them but I'm keeping an eye out. I...
